This product has truly exceeded my expectations. My daughter is absolutely captivated by it and can’t bear to put it down. Its playability is exceptional; even a 5-year-old can easily strum and sing along. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone on the fence about purchasing. In fact, I’d say this product is far more impressive in reality than it appears in the product description. It’s incredibly user-friendly. The app offers a diverse selection of popular songs suitable for all ages. My daughter is particularly enamored with “Baby Shark”! Moreover, the sound quality is outstanding, surpassing all my initial expectations.Upon reflection, I realize that this product allows individuals with no guitar background to experience the joy of playing and singing. While it may spark some debate for bypassing the more challenging aspects of traditional guitar learning, I say, so what? Right now, my 5-year-old daughter and I are thoroughly enjoying making music together. If this product can ignite her passion for music and foster a deep interest, then that’s its true value. Two thumbs up! I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Lava Company. I believe that all businesses should embody this kind of innovative and user-focused development spirit.

I cannot say enough how much I love my LG!!! Today the song I requested was made available on the app, and I was able to play and sing one of my all time favorite songs, and it brought me so much joy. I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar so that I could play and sing. I bought a guitar and took lessons. I found I could play or I could sing, bit I struggled so much with playing strumming patterns in one rhythm while singing another. I am a single mom who works full time. I had resigned myself to not being able to play and sing until my kids were grown and I retired, and hopefully I still will learn to play guitar with strings when that day comes. Until then though, the Lava Genie means that when I have 5 minutes here or there, I can find peace and rejuvenation in sitting down to play and sing my favorite songs. Thank you, Lava Genie!! ♥️

This is really an amazing piece of tech. There is definitely a learning curve. Digital time signatures and keys are very unforgiving. And to get any kind of use out of this instrument, the app is a must. But most features are free. Having said that the possibilities are endless.Great sound, cool lights, very portable, amazingly functional. Some cool music will definitely be made.

Excellent product for anyone at any age! Your kids will love it especially! But it’s not just for them eh? (I’m a senior! 🥴) Does everything it says..and has beautiful sounds & lights up in glorious colours! Haven’t had it long but the app is just a tiny bit confusing for me so will take a bit longer to work that out..but I’m the same with a lot of apps.. It has tons of songs on it for everyone & it does look very beautiful! Enjoy! You won’t regret it! Saves hours of painful playing on the usual guitar strings too! 🥴👏👏 Any child could use it from around 6 years on I’m guessing..up to 90 years I’m sure! 👏👏😁👍

I just bought and received the Lava Genie. It looks great but when I connected it to the app it requires an update before using. But the app will not update to the connected Genie. The app is up-to-date and is running on my i-phone 15. I have tried to shut them all down and then restart as well as deleting the app and reinstalling it, but nothing works. I have also tried to do it on my i-pad and another i-phone, but nothing works to download and update the Genie. Thus, none of the features work on the Genie. I have sent two emails to the Lava Music Company but have not heard from them. If that non-response continues and the problem is not solved, I am returning the Genie within the 30 day window. I am very disappointed. If the problem is solved, I will change my rating. UPDATE: The problem was not solved but after I returned the Genie to NiceShine, the customer service team replied to me with further instructions, but I had followed all them without any success. Yesterday, Ken the online sales manager reached out to me with further information and am waiting for that follow up. So I have raised my review to 3 stars. 2nd UPDATE: Ken, the online sales manager has gone far and beyond what I expected and has issued my refund that is in process as well as sending me a new Lava Genie that is also in process! I have had others like Robin on the Lava Music team also reach out to me with the promise of help during this time and I thank each one. Therefore, I have raised my review to 5 Stars for superb customer service. Final Update: just received a new Lava Genie and it had no problems with the needed updates. Updated in seconds. Again, excellent support by the Lava Music team.

STOP ! DO not read if you have not the time, because this is the best review you can get : I know the company Lava Music, I know some co-founders of it and I was backer 1455 when the Lava Genie was a crowdfunding project. I could for 8 long weeks test the product when it arrived on december 16, 2024. I am on an interactive facebook-forum with the co-founders of Lava Music. What do you think, do we read on ?!I saw this product, the Lava Genie, as a BETA product on youtube and tiktok websites. Because I’ve ordered the SUPER EARLY BIRD on the crowdfunding site, that’s why I have the Lava Genie so early. In a way : I wanted that product because I could feel and see the possibilities with the device. What you can do with this Lava Genie Sampler Guitar is playing at least Chords and with the help of other buttons you can play also more in a melodic way. You can load the Lava Genie with tons of presets as sound-samples to play at your fingertips. Those sounds you can choose from the Lava+ app library. You can use your own ChordCharts, eventually make those and you can use the ChordCharts coming from the Lava+ app, where you can use a link to a PC/Mac to edit/import your own ChordCharts with the Lava Genie ChordChart Editor. Know you don’t need the latest up to date PC/Mac or Smartphone for that. When I received the parcel from a delivery company, my father and I saw that Lava Music thinked deep about the good cardboard packaging for their product : It was a sturdy outer cardboard box with the real Lava Genie beautifull CardBoard box placed inside it, and buffered with a plastic protection. Even the corners of the outer cardboard box had plastic triangles around it and on top of that it was wrapped in plastic. I never saw a product as the Lava Genie so good protected from outer circumstances. Now something about the background sound/drums on the Lava Genie : You have two kinds of it, a simple drum or an advanced drum, what you can softly stop with the stop button. What is so special about it, aside that the Lava Genie insdie is based on a industrial musical MIDI protocol, it has a kind of AI build-in that when you press one button on the finger-board, it generates extra sounds around the choosen presets and drums. Very cool …The Lava+ app is very intuitive designed, so slick and smooth as a race car : With a sturdy Lava Genie ChordChart Editor for your PC/Mac. You can choose from thausands of Artists, Songs, Presets and so on …I am be honest, I am addicted to this Lava Genie Samples Guitar since it arrived on my doorstep. I almost forgot I was learning to play piano/keyboard/keytar.What else I can say, that I am involved on the Lava Genie Launch Group facebook-forum. Where we have interaction with the co-founders of Lava Music and their co-workers. I’ve worked in the computer science business for 10 years, from helpdesk to fully implement computers and servers in the network. I have never seen so a good interaction by Lava Music and their co-workers with the people who were standing behind the Lava Genie Sampler Guitar as a crowdfunding project. We share problems and ideas to improve every single day the Lava Genie as a high technological music instrument for simplifying music for people who like to learn music. And because I am a Hardcore Backer of the crowdfunding project as backer nr. 1455 : Lava Genie is proudly alive and kicking … . ANd what did I do, I gave the Lava Genie a face and a soul by pimping the product with a couple stickers. My baby, my Lava Genie is straight coming from the production line : I could buy it, as I said, via the crowdfunding project.Buy it or you miss a lifetime of joyment. Can I give 6 stars on 5 ?!Lara

Excellent customer service. I had a problem with the first instrument. I was contacted almost immediately after I texted the seller. They were more than helpful and very courteous. I had complained that this instrument is not easy to learn unless you purchase the lava Plus subscription. They were kind enough to give me a free 3-year subscription. Once I got that I was able to learn several songs very quickly. It’s a lot of fun to sit there and play. It has so many different sounds and chord progressions. It’s also a lot of fun just to sing along with the music and be able to play the chords with it. I love the compactness of it and it is very light. I can sing a little bit but I have no guitar knowledge. But with this guitar you don’t need itIt shows you every note to play along with the lyrics. I’m not saying that this guitar will teach you how to play a real guitar. But it may lead you to learn to play a real one and will be very helpful in the process. I highly recommend this lava genie for anyone that wants to how to sing and play. A big shout out to Ken Song and his management team for all their help.

I am updating my original review not because of the product, but because of the company. My first experience still stands; the product is built well and a great value although I was disappointed to see the full features locked behind a subscription. What impressed me was after leaving my initial review Lava reached out to me personally to offer generous support to ensure I was satisfied. Any company that would go to such lengths to ensure customer satisfaction has more than earned my respect

I saw this product and then went and researched it, read many reviews, watched YouTube vids etc. They all seemed positive, and the product looked good. I specifically checked as to whether the product had any form of velocity sensitivity on the pads, and it seemed this was so from the online info I found. I thought this might be useful for a bit of fun for jamming with non-guitarists.However, when I got the product, the pads all just triggered the sounds at the same volume all the time. This is a deal breaker – how can you get any expression into your playing like this? Also, the individual string strum sensors played the string sounds much quieter than the main pads, meaning that adding some variation to the chords by playing these isn’t possible. Add to that the subscription costs, the fact that some key useful functions can only be accessed from the app – I mean, come on, the key change buttons on the back of the neck are switched off by default and have to be enabled in the app?? who thought that was sensible! It’s feels like it’s really an expensive toy, just a modern take on the Playstation game guitars of a few years ago, which is a shame, it could have been so much more.

I received the Lava Genie. It was extremely carefully packaged for overseas shipping and subsequent shipping within the U.S. I initially experienced some challenges with learning how to use it, but after reaching out to Lava for support, I am now all set to start rocking out.The app is a must! You’ll need it to easily play songs. While you can also play by ear, the app does make it that much easier.

It was as description says on the tin. But using it I found myself lost with the beats. It will take practice too get into. As for it only letting you play a few songs then the subscription came up too bye over time. They’re not 10k of songs I found yet, again that might be in future. Its solid and sturdy construction and easy too assemble l, do need too charge up and have fret board in too start it up. The lights make it look good and easy as painting by numbers playing, you have lots of scope for longer creativity.

While guitar purists will definitely scoff at a product like this, this is undeniably an excellent and thoughtfully designed product that makes guitar (and music making in general) very accessible to complete beginners. First off, the guitar is beautiful and well made. It’s a minimalistic white design that looks elegant and the layout of the controls is great and the folding and detaching makes the entire guitar extremely portable while remaining easy to set up when you want to play. This guitar is essentially Guitar Hero on steroids. While the Guitar Hero controller is literally just a controller to interface with the game, the Lava Genie is way more powerful in that you actually play guitar chords. Your left hand selects the chord you want to play and your right hand presses buttons on the tap pad to actually play the sound (or swipes down in the respective area to strum an arpeggio). This is how the guitar works in a nutshell and the chords are set up automatically in a way that you don’t have to know anything about music theory but can make beautiful music relatively easily. As you get better and want more control, you definitely have that as you have more controls to set tempo, drums, change keys etc. to basically make it more complex and get more out of it. The app also gives you an even greater degree of control (e.g. assigning specific chords to specific buttons on the finger board). The app also has a paid subscription service that you can subscribe to if you want to play along with copyrighted commercial music if you so choose (you get a few months free to try out the service). All in all, this is a fantastically designed and easy to use device that can scale and grow with you. It makes guitar extremely accessible without needing to spend years mastering the mechanical aspects of playing the actual instrument (which again, guitar purists may scoff at). At the end of the day, making music more accessible to all is an idea I can get behind.

This is such a fun instrument! I have only just tried it a few times and I really need to watch some more videos on how this fully works but this is such a cool item to play around with. It has preset beats, including some percussion additions. It has settings to change the key as well. The app includes levels of songs to play and instructional videos. This would be appropriate for older kids and teens as well as adults. For musicians with a lot of creativity and time to fully utilize the app, they will love this item. I love that it comes apart and fits so nicely into a small case. It is so portable to take anywhere. This is such a fantastic item.

Okay, so…I admit I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to this. I am a musician, and guitar was my first instrument, but that was many years ago. I’m having mental issues when it comes to recognizing how this thing is working against pre-conceived notions. That being said…This is a well thought out device. Its lines are clean and attractive, and its portability is very impressive. The neck removes, and the body of the guitar folds in to all fit nicely into a small case. Everything about it from the case to the device, and the strap feels nice. It is responsive, sounds decent, and colourfully flashy. While I haven’t fully got the hang of it yet, I already know I’m pleased with the device, but the opposite of pleased with many of the options locked behind the app subscription. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have many songs to play.

Like all guitarists even I was skeptical calling this LAVA Genie a “guitar”.After using it for 2 days, my opinion has changed for the better. This instrument does have its respectable place in the music room – along with the real guitars.By no means is this a toy, although, yes, a beginner with no music theory background can easily produce some good music in no time. The build quality is outstanding. This is a “pro” electronic gadget that has gone through some stringent design, manufacturing, build, and QA processes. As we know, the idea is not new, however, this LAVA GENIE is way above the current competition – hands-down.Whether in 7 blocks or 21 blocks, the fingerboard (aka Fretboard) is very logically (and Musically) arranged. I like to use it with the 21 blocks enabled as that gives me the freedom to play many songs as-is without the need for the APP to make setting changes. It’s good to have the most common beats (6/8, 3/4, 4/4, 2/4, etc..) programmed in the on board rotary knob that can have 5 presets – for quick selection. The scale also can be set to C as the default. With the above settings, many songs can be played “stand-alone” even without taking any help from the LAVA+ APP.LAVA+ APP is intuitive and power-packed. The designers have thought it over very well. I was able to access the APP without any issues. Very user-friendly APP.The APP (and cellphone) talks to the LAVA GENIE on Bluetooth.Right out of the box I’ve played a popular song – in my attached video-clip. This was done stand-alone sans the LAVA+ APP. Please use headphones. The guitar sound is rich and authentic – which is what eventually matters to the purists. It’s worth having this instrument in ones “active/modern” music room.

I was skeptical at first when I saw this, but given I have no idea how to play an actual guitar, I decided to try it out. I’d never actually heard of Lava or this product before, but the premise seemed really cool, and after doing a bit of research it seemed like they make quality products. Well, I am happily blown away with the Lava Genie. I’ve only used it a few times so far, but it just seems like the sky is the limit! The build quality is phenonmenal, and it just looks so dang awesome too. I love that it folds and packs up into such a nice compact case. Once I downloaded the app, I was amazed at how much more depth this has. My daughter has been playing around with Garageband, and I know she will absolutely love this for creating. I just look forward to finding more and more ways to enjoy this “guitar”!

Du bekommst ja auch was dafür.Hatte schon Dümmere und Teurere Hobbys.Möchte darauf hinweisen.Man muss die Lava+App nicht dauerhaft nutzen .(Ist aber Geiler😉).

The Lava Genie is an interesting option for anyone looking to experiment with music, especially if you’re new to playing instruments. The ease to get started using is one of its standout features and you don’t need any prior experience to have fun with it, which makes it particularly great for kids or anyone who might find traditional instruments intimidating or challenging to learn. My kids picked up the Lava Genie and was able to download the app and start playing their first song in about 10 minutes. The sound quality is pretty impresive and playing along with popular songs in the app can be a lot of fun. That said, there are a some drawbacks with the Lava Genie. Some of the songs available in the app don’t really sound familiar, despite having the option to download the preset before playing the song. Downloading the preset is slow, sometimes taking more than 1 minute. I found with some popular hits, the overall sound was not that recognizable. However, other songs like Hotel California was instantly recognizable and also one of the easier songs to play. Also, while the app offers a 3-month trial, continuing to use it after that requires a paid subscription. There are various options for paying by month, or by session but there is no free plan which is disappointing. While you don’t need the app to use the Lava Genie, I feel it’s the app and songs library that gives it the appeal. For now, I will continue to use the trial and decide if the monthly plan is worth continuing. The Lava Genie can fold up and stored in the included carrying case, allowing you to easily carry this on the go or on travel. The build quality is very high and it just works. Overall, it is a fun and approachable way to explore music, especially for kids, but the price and the paid subscription for app use dampen the experience.

This guitar is so impressive to use. I just received this thing and can’t put it down. I am not trained in music and in a few minutes was sounding like I actually knew what I was doing. Still don’t but the cats look impressed. I guess the biggest hang up I have with this guitar is price point. It has a fantastic feel/build quality to it and the sound is amazing but man this is a big investment if it is just a passing fad for someone. I can’t wait to explore more of the app and the capabilities of this guitar “superhero”.

Objectively, this is a good product. It doesn’t feel cheap, It looks good & generally speaking it’s high quality.I’ve used it for about 8 hours since I got it during my free time while watching shows, I was a complete beginner & I can already use it fairly confidently while making minor mistakes here & there. It kind of reminded me of guitar hero, but I do have a problem with it.The problem comes with the fact that It’s not really guitar (hear me out), Rather it’s simply a device that in the hands of a vocalist who’s unskilled, or hasn’t learned with a guitar to get the ability to play the music on an alternate, convenient device to appear like they are truly playing the music when in reality the device is doing most of the work. That’s not a bad thing, It gives the vocalist a better way to perform & It’s pretty easy to pick up, but that’s really the only thing it has going for it, If you’re trying to learn guitar, this won’t help you, all it has are presets & limited song selection, & If I’m being honest the presets aren’t really that good either, at least not with my headphones.Additionally, I had probably 5% of my inputs that were either ignored, or in the case of the strum double tapped despite pressing it once, It’s not the end of the world but It did get on my nerves a couple of times. It also has a weird quirk where you must have the fret board plugged into the base or it won’t power on, which I find pretty strange as It’s impossible to check battery life unless it’s fully assembled & powered on.So in my eyes, It’s really a product that’s only going to be utilized properly by a very specific end user. Which is not a problem if you’re a Vocalist that’s looking to broaden your performance, but for anyone else I cannot recommend it in good faith, unless you’re looking for a fancy wall decoration.

As a musician with some mediocre guitar skills I found this no string guitar was almost as hard to learn how to play. The results are quite stunning though. The sounds that can be created with this instrument are quite lovely. It doesn’t play as much like a guitar as I had expected. The left hand does control the chords up the frets and the right controls the strumming, or arpeggio. Every time I play it I learn more features and find new ways to create. I am a little resentful that the apps features are paid, and not free, with the price of 569$ (at time of order) it is a little prohibitive cost wise.I find the construction and quality very good. It feels heavier than I expected, but not in a bulky or cumbersome way, but in the way that a heavy pen feels good in your hand. It comes disassembled and includes a carrying case, making it easy for transport. The connections feel very secure. The lights on it are very reactive and beautiful as well. Aside from the price, this really is making music more accessible.

I’ve played guitar for 20+ years and also have a midi keyboard for some digital music creation. So, when I saw this and watched the promotional video for it I thought I’d give it a shot and see what the hype was about. This thing is absolutely cool. Very easy to set up and begin using and a lot of the controls are quite intuitive in design.By default, without their accompanying app, it has several settings with different sounds such as electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, and synthetic. It’s super easy to pick up and start playing in no time at all. However, I think I’ve only just scratched the surface of what this can do. It has a built in drum backing track that changes tempo to what you want it by simply tapping the tempo button. The onboard speaker is loud and clear and has a great range from bass all the way up. It also has an output port to record with. The guitar itself is really well built and packaged. Looks and feels amazing and folds up nicely for the very nice carrying case.Overall, just an absolutely awesome product and I cant wait to learn more about the ins and outs of it. Definitely see this being capable of making great music.

This is a very interesting product. I can’t see someone using this to make actual music, so I would qualify this more as an expensive toy. It works really well, the the touch controls are very responsive. My main complaint is that it is really easy, especially if you use the drum tracks, to start a guitar sample just slightly off beat and the whole sample will play off beat. It would have been great if there was a mode to start the sample to the nearest 1/8 or something to that effect to help the user start the sampled tracks within the tempo of the music. While the controls are very responsive, the fact that they are touch sensitive and require the press of 2 buttons makes it hard to be intuitively very precise with when a sample start playing.Side note: consider this a different instrument than a guitar. This will not help you learn to play guitar at all. But on its own, it’s very well made, feel like a quality construction, well manufactured and the finish is in line with the asking price. It is not, however, a substitute or an introduction to playing guitar. There is an app which a subscription model.

I had a really good time playing with this. I’ve dabbled here and there but can’t say that I’m particularly musically inclined but even I was able to pick this up and get started and see progress within an hour. The build quality is good. It feels well made and I like that a carrying case is included. The app is fantastic and made it really enjoyable to learn how to play songs that I like and recognize.

I love playing guitar but I have been hard on my hands over the years and fretting is getting harder and harder to do well. This is a great solution for me. I can press the buttons on the neck easily and playing is once again fun.The sound is incredible and all the instruments it can reproduce is impressive. When you use the software on your phone or iPad you will get the hang of how to use the Genie in literally a matter of minutes. It starts you off with basic chords and builds as you get more experience with the instrument. The Genie comes in a very well padded box and the travel case is likewise well made and protective.I am looking forward to playing it everyday and I keep finding songs on the playlist that I like and want to play as well.So far I can play it for several days on a charge and it charges quickly with any wall adapter I have for a phone. The sounds are so customizable that I can’t think of a thing I would add to it, from acoustic guitar to piano it does them all really well. There are numerous videos online of people raving about this instrument and for good reason, it is great!

I saw the Lava Genie in Jordan Rudess’s endorsement videos and I love the simplicity of the product. I like that it can be a fun gadget or you can use it for stage performance. In fact, I have used it in my church and it worked really well. Everyone was curious about it.I also like the fact that there are many dedicated church music presets in the Genie, and when I turned on the drums and bass, it really created a full band experience that attracts the crowd, something that I wasn’t able to do with a regular guitar. It’s more than a simple drum machine. The instruments can all align and there are verse and chorus sections you can control. If you’re already an advanced guitar player, that’s probably not for you. But if you play a bit of the guitar, or you want to experience different instruments, or if you want to have a full band backing up your vocal, this is the best thing and the only option in the market. Highly recommended.

It’s AWESOME. I’ve been having a blast with it! It’s packed with sounds you can mess around with, and you get to pick your own chords to play along with thousands of songs. Yep, thousands of songs! Here’s the best part: it’s super easy to jam with anyone! Even people who don’t know how to play the guitar. Me and my friends had tons of fun jamming, even though they don’t know a single thing about music!

There is an app associated with this product. While not absolutely necessary to begin playing chords with this device, the features are very limited without it. And the app follows a subscription model, so if you’re interested in anything more than the general features, you’ll have to pay up continually. The app asks for your email (necessary to log in,) location, gender and age. These last ones don’t need to be answered but, fyi, they’ll try to get personal info. Like everything does. This “instrument” reminds me of two things. Many years ago I recall an interview with Valerie Bertinelli, who was married to Eddie Van Halen at the time. She was asked about her kids and she mentioned that they all played “Guitar Hero” (which was relatively new back then) and she said that EVH was very bad at it. This Lava “guitar” is like that. Guitar skills aren’t required nor are they particularly relevant and this is not a substitute for learning guitar with an actual guitar. The second thing I thought of was a friend of mine who used to swear that she became fluent in French when she smoked the funny cigarettes. And that is what I think this tends toward. A bunch of friends get around, do stuff, and impress each other with their sudden musical fluency. In terms of the product itself separate from the use it may be put to, this is a very well built device. It has a bunch of electronics and integrated speakers so it is quite heavy. The speakers are capable of producing a lot of sound. Although I find that the volume control isn’t very smooth. It goes from too quiet to too loud with just a small turn of the dial. And just like with real guitars, the most likely break point is were the neck connects to the body. Drop this such that the neck contacts the floor and I expect there will be no possible repair. If you are interested in learning guitar specifically or learning music, then I think this is more of an impediment than a help. (And speaking as one who plays guitar, piano, and trumpet, piano was the instrument that was clearest for understanding theory.)If you have a bunch of money lying around and you just want to futz about with making musical-type sounds, here you go.This comes in a very nice cardboard box with a cloth strap. I thought that was the storage for this but no. Inside is a white carrying bag. A zippered cloth case with a carrying handle houses the instrument. The neck fits into a sleeve on the top half and the body folds over and is strapped into the bottom half.

I’ve been playing real guitar (electric and acoustic) for 30 years. So I was curious about this Lava Genie device. It feels like a guitar and looks like a space-age guitar, but it functions a bit differently. You don’t finger actual strings and you don’t strum it. Instead, the “fretboard” so to speak is actually a number of squares and you lightly press down on them. Instead of strumming, you press a button where the sound hole would typically be on a real guitar. In a way, it simulates guitar playing but it’s not an exact match. It has a speaker built in that plays the guitar sound. You can’t play any chord you want, but you can select a Key and then the fretboard squares represent each chord within that key. Change the key on the app, and you change the chords you can play. When you press the “strum” button, you can also do arpeggios or full strummed chords. You can switch up the sound of the guitar in so many ways too, even making it sound like a piano. The really cool feature is that the phone app has thousands of pop and rock songs you can play along to. You select the song and then it can tell when you’re playing the chord listed on the screen. The lyrics are there for singing along too, and the app advances the lyrics and chords as you play. It’s like an intuitive form of guitar tabs that guitarists have been using for decades. My 11 year old daughter was playing songs within the hour — that’s how easy it is. It has inspired her to take up real, stringed guitar. It’s also been fun to play and sing along as a family.

This guitar is seriously impressive. Sleek, futuristic design and really well built. Easy to set up and comes with a slick carry bag and strap. The onboard speaker is loud, and there are heaps of presets to explore. It’s not going to help you learn a traditional guitar, but it’s perfect for creating your own sounds and songs straight away. Feels like having a one-person band in your hands. Super accessible even if you’ve never played guitar before – instant gratification. So much to discover on it and loads of fun. Watch the product video to see what it can really do. Packaged beautifully and you can tell it’s high quality. This really feels like the future of music.

The guitar itself is good, and that’s the only reason I decided to keep it. But it was clearly used before — which is completely unacceptable for a product at this price point. When customers pay full price, they expect a brand-new item, not something second-hand. Very disappointed.

First things first this is not a real guitar. It does not have strings. It is a music sampler. There are many different presets to choose from, changing the sound on your lava guitar such as “swifties” “blues” “folk ballad” etc. You play by pressing down on the fret board with your left hand and “strumming” the buttons on the right. You do need to download an app to get the most from it(and you have to feed it far more information than I think necessary to log in) but then you can play along to many preset songs. You can also create your own presets. It’s plenty of fun and easy to learn the basics. There’s also drum and bass patterns and other cool effects. That said, there isn’t much documentation that comes with it and learning all the advanced features can be a challenge, especially if you’re not particularly musically inclined. Also, this isn’t a gateway to becoming Eric Clapton. You won’t learn how to play guitar with this instrument; it’s all one finger presses. I think this can appeal to people with zero musical training who want musical accompaniment when they sing, as well as musicians who want to fool around with all the advanced features. One other thing: there is an optional monthly subscription charge for some advanced features but at this point I haven’t quite figured what you get and what you don’t get with it. There is a free 3 month trial to see if you want to pay for it. I think this can appeal to people with zero musical training who want musical accompaniment when they sing, as well as musicians who want to fool around with all the advanced features.

I’ve been really impressed with this innovative guitar-like device that rethinks how beginners approach making music. Right off the bat, the design stands out: its sleek, minimalist white aesthetic and thoughtfully arranged controls lend it an air of modern sophistication, while its smart folding and detachable elements make transporting and setting up the instrument a breeze. What I found particularly exciting is how this device transforms the learning process. Rather than merely serving as a basic controller, it allows you to engage with real chord playing – your left hand chooses the chord, and your right navigates a responsive tap pad to produce sound or even execute smooth arpeggio strums. This intuitive system means that even if you’re just starting out, you can create rich, layered music without diving deep into music theory right away.As you become more comfortable, the instrument grows with you. It offers additional features like tempo adjustments, drum integrations, and key changes, providing the freedom to experiment and expand your musical expression. The accompanying app further enhances these capabilities, offering customization options that let you assign specific chords to particular buttons, and even a subscription service that opens the door to playing along with popular tracks.Overall, this product is a game-changer for anyone looking to explore music in a fun and accessible way. It’s a refreshing alternative for those who may not have the time or interest in mastering every technical detail of traditional guitar playing, yet still want to experience the joy of creating music.

So mine arrived used slightly, that being said, its in perfect condition so I am not going to let it impact my review. The instrument is quite impressive. The technology that went into this is nothing short of amazing. It feels good in your hands and is easy to get started. The app on android (I don’t have IOS) is quite user friendly and makes getting started very easy. Good instructions for a beginner like myself with absolutely no musical knowledge. My wife and daughter are both musicians and they find it a lot of fun to play with this instrument. Note I have not used the word guitar. Yes its shaped like a guitar from the future but it is really more of an electronic instrument that plays many different sounds so calling it a guitar seems to sell it short. You will not learn how to play guitar with this. If that is your goal then this product is not for you IMO. If you want to be able to make many different types of music with minimal effort, this is perfect for you. I could see this being ideal for a singer who wants to perform with the sounds of a full band but by themselves. I think this is a great tool for bringing people closer to music but I don’t believe its something that requires a lot of talent or actual musical knowledge to use. Sort of like Karaoke and Auto Tune for singers. That being said, its a blast to play with and could have a lot of functional use for people making videos or performing.

This is probably one of the most underrated revolutionary products in years, and it’s definitely more than a guitar.I played the guitar in my 20s but haven’t picked it up again in decades. I was a bit skeptical until I saw somebody who has no musical background at all; she was able to play the Lava Genie within minutes.I have tried it, and it really works! The “guitar” is beautifully made, and everything in the box feels premium. The sound is loud and punchy, the options for instrument samples are infinite, and many of them sound very real. The electric guitar presets sound just like somebody playing an old Fender Stratocaster in front of you—it’s that good. It’s really a game changer, and I sincerely recommend it to everyone.

This is a pretty cool instrument. My initial impressions are that it is a (much) fancier baby einstein piano. Because that is exactly how it works. It is however a LOT fancier than a baby einstein piano- you can customize rhythm, instruments(out of 4 or so), back up beats, and volume (ofcourse) on the fly without the app. With the app – there is a lot more customization. It was a little confusing to start, but less than an hour later my kids were rocking out to the most awesome version of twinkle twinkle little star.(That I was playing for them – they are 4 – and definitely a bit too young to figure this out, but I can see other 4 year olds being able to figure this out, it is not that complex). With the app you get tons more customizations and I’m definitely enjoying the instrument. I still however think there is no better way to describe this than a “very fancy baby einstein piano”.Sure it sounds amazing, looks super cool, abs is satisfying to play on. But – I wouldnt say your skills would transfer to a real guitar. You would however, learn to really enjoy playing music – and at the end of the day, isn’t that all that matters when it comes to musical instruments? In terms of build quality, I came to it with a very critical viewpoint, which I am happy to say has been improved for the better. I didnt see any corners cut, and was overall very impressed. The sound, the feel, the touch sensitivity, I found it all to be quite good. I did have some weird touch-sensitivity related issues (i think) but it was impossible to recreate and I’m chalking it off to newbie mistakes. It would be nice to have a more traditional guitar neck so you could hang it on a wall when not in use for an easy pick up.

This guitar was pretty neat and fun to mess around with at first. Over a week, my father and I would pick it up and mess around with it. Sadly, we started to notice the limitations, especially when it comes to strumming at your own pace. It constantly wants to do the chords for you, even if you switch to manual. There is also only about 4-5 different instrument sounds you can switch to on the guitar. When it says “Hundreds of Instrument Presets” what they really want you to do is go onto their app, which doesn’t have much customization to it, the customization is you click on a “theme” not individual instrument, and then it plays specifics cords from whatever they decided the song should sound like. It’s not a fun little sound board that you can come up with your own songs. They also will let you try a theme for a day, then ask you to pay for it afterwards, and by default I think we only got 3 extra themes other than the 4-5 on the guitar. But don’t worry! They have a pass to let you use themes as long as you pay the monthly fee. The guitar learning section also doesn’t really work well, you get a video that shows you how to do it and will disappear after it has been played, so you have to try to click through menus to get it back up again. It does light up where you have to press on the fretboard, but that’s it, not where your fingers need to rest, or how to hold it, just put your finger on this column and we’ll play the chord for you. It only detects the columns and not the individual strings on the fretboard, because there isn’t any, just two lines for each column, and plays a chord at it’s own speed. You’ll notice if you try to play to fast, the recording of the sound will cut off and move onto the next chord unnaturally. You’re basically paying $569.00 for a really sound board that is heavily limited for monetization reasons. I can’t recommend this, especially after how disappointed my dad looked when he saw how limited it was and couldn’t play songs he knew how to play on guitar.

I had the opportunity to try out the Lava Genie through the Vine program.   I like that you can turn it on and start playing right away.   I also like that it comes with a nice case to protect it (it folds up to fit the case).  My husband plays guitar and stressed this is not a regular “guitar” but it’s fun and easy to play.  He also stressed, being a left-hander, that it’s for right-hand playing. To get better at using this, I recommend going through the simple instructions first and then downloading their app.  The app gives you tutorials that help you learn how to play and more.  I like the tutorials so far (I’m still slowly going through them), but my husband said it helped him a lot (he went through half of it so far). It offers many features to explore.  Some features are presets for different sounds; it has a bass and rhythm section; you can use touchpad or strum with your hand; you can change keys and adjust tempo; it has volume and mute buttons; it supports line out, and much more. I’ve attached a number of photos to show what is included in the package and on the genie. Overall, I would rate this a 4.5 out of 5.

This product became unusable just afyer the NiceShine returns policy ran out. Basically when you go to change to a different chord the Lava Ge ie either wont change from the existing chord or plays an incorrect chord all together! I have been in touch with the manufacturers and they keep asking for videos of this happening. I’ve now sent them 2 which they say they have never received. They are refusing a refund but offering to send replacement parts or another Lava Genie if I send them videos which I already have. There is a recognised hardware defect with this product. A close friend of mind had exactly the same issues. Buyer beware!

This sampler guitar is really fun to use. I was impressed with how easy it was to get started with all the different instrument presets. The built in speaker has good volume and the guitar feels well made. It feels like a premium product. My whole family has enjoyed playing with it. It folds up nicely which makes it great for taking places. The carry bag is extremely nice as well. No need for strings or tuning makes it perfect for someone like me who wants to make music without learning traditional guitar.

Ordered this Lava Genie for my teenage daughter. She loves listening to music and singing along but does not play any instruments, so I thought this might be a great “bridge” between just listening to the pop music she loves and actually participating in it.My initial reaction to the device itself is very good. It is amazingly well packaged and the look and feel of the “guitar” is top notch. I love the way it easily comes apart and folds up into the supplied storage/carrying case.I had no expectation that my daughter, with no musical training, would be able to just pick up this device and start making great music. And that is the case. Although it is very quick and simple to start making musical sounds with the instrument, it does take some time and practice to sound like you’re making intentional music. There are beginner tutorials available that are helpful. But based on the testimonial videos I’ve watched on how fast and easy it is to make music with this device, I expected it to be a little more effortless. It requires effort.I do like that you can customize the instrument to respond very simply with fewer options for those who are beginners or not musically inclined (the default settings) and you can also add complexity and nuance to the instrument for those who are more advanced. We haven’t been able to try these more advanced settings in any meaningful way, of course, but it’s nice to know the instrument can grow with you as you develop.Overall, it is clear that this is a high quality product and it fits a pretty unique market niche, bridging that space between music lovers and music makers. The learning curve to proficiency with this instrument is a little steeper than the company and its youtube promoters would have you believe, but still within reach of most people, I think. I’m looking forward to continuing to explore what we can do with it.

Very cool product. My first impression was negative but with excellent customer service, my firmware updated and everything started working perfectly. You can map out the buttons for different strums/arpeggios. You can have a 7-chord or 21-chord layout, and can map chords to each of the 21 positions. There are numerous sound samples to choose from, and corresponding drum loops. You need exceptional timing to get this thing to sound performance-ready, but it’s a lot of fun for a non-guitarist to just pick up and play. Myself being a long time guitarist, I can’t help but compare it to the real thing, but I think it’s more fair to compare this to an Auto-Harp or a similar sampling device. Can sound a little choppy as there is a tiny window to click that strums button at just the right time. It helps greatly to have a fundamental understanding of music theory so that you can find your favourite songs and map them out yourself using the Nashville numbers. Alternatively, you can buy their songs. Unfortunately much of the app is dedicated to channeling customers into this ongoing purchasing scheme of chord charts and instrument presets instead of teaching you how to convert your own songs to be playable on this thing. So while it is marketed towards beginner non-guitarist, I think the real market is vocalists looking for very simple accompaniment. It’s really fun to set the drum beat and jam to your favourite 1-4-5 tune. Also bonus points for incorporating a 1/4″ output jack, I hooked this thing up to my pedalboard and amp for a fun afternoon. The onboard speaker sounds great and loud, and the build quality itself is not cheap. It folds into this tiny carrying case and includes a guitar strap. I directly compared this with the Enya guitar of similar specs – while this one had a better feeling build and more macro buttons, the Enya has a strumming bar which feels more like a guitar. Anyways, I could easily go on as I do enjoy this thing, but honestly if you gave me the choice between a $500 sampler that could last 10 years before being soft-blocked by a software update and a $500 acoustic guitar, I’d take the guitar every day.

The Lava Genie guitar came extremely well packaged. The guitar was in its carry case inside its box. That box was completely encased in thick air filled wrap then packed inside another outer shipping box which was then packed inside an NiceShine box. I note this because it was so well packaged and that is not something you see everyday. The instructions that came with the guitar were very disappointing. They just completely ignored the basics and provided very little information. For example there was mention of charging the guitar or even basic setup. It would have been really helpful to have a diagram and label the parts of the guitar. They don’t even tell you where to find the on/off button. The limited instructions refer to parts but it wasn’t always clear. It says 60 seconds to your first chord but I didn’t find that to be true. When you turn on/off the guitar it is quite loud, which always had me turning down the volume (which isn’t labelled but the only knob) and then I couldn’t hear when I tried to play anything. Unlike a real guitar, you just can’t pick it up and strum. You can’t really just pick it up and do anything which was frustrating. You have to download the app to get chords and instructions. There were instruction videos but I found it hard to watch them on the app and see the features they were mentioning. I couldn’t see the screen in the video and of course couldn’t get to that screen in my app because I was watching the video. It wasn’t a typical interactive setup tutorial which would have been more helpful. The guitar seems to have many features but I didn’t find that this was an easy way to learn about them. After a month, I still feel that I don’t understand how to use this product.I had tried to learn guitar as a teen but my fingers weren’t strong enough to play certain chords. I thought this guitar might fix that since there are no strings but I was wrong. I wanted something I could play around with and learn the guitar but that is not what this is. You need to use the app to do anything. I tried playing various songs but most of them don’t sound anything like the real song. To me, it feels more like “Guitar Hero” than a guitar. It also doesn’t even sound like a guitar. So if you want to learn traditional guitar, look elsewhere. I also suspect if you know how to play a guitar, this would frustrate you.Since the songs never sounded right, I have started playing around with it and making my own music. It is fun but not $569 worth of fun. There is a free 3 month trial and after that it cost $5.549 a month or $49.99 a year. It says price may change due to exchange rates but it says those prices are Canadian so that is a little confusing. This isn’t a cheap item and having to pay more to use it is a turn off. In the app, you can watch videos of others playing and I have no interest in that.It is an interesting item but despite watching videos beforehand, it wasn’t quite what I expected. If you are looking to play guitar, look elsewhere. It reminds me more of the electronic keyboards that play multiple instruments but in a guitar format.

WOW just wow. I love the aesthetics of it, wish there was a black variant but that’s nitpicking. The sound quality is amazing and I love that it has a 3/4 jack to connect to my soundcard and capture my strumming. I looks and feels premium like an apple product. It’s a great value for the money. I do wish to see future updates to the accompanying app such as being able to import your own samples to use as the instrument’s sound like you see in the Orba and Medo products. I think if they added that feature to the app, this instrument would be unbeatable. it’s also very easy to carry around as it comes with a carrying case and super portable once you disassemble it. lastly, I love how easy it is to just pick up and play.

I waited to make this review because as an old school musician- I didn’t have a lot of expectations for this digital/elecytric instrument. I practically have to bribe my son to get playing time and without exaggeratting- it has helped him soar in his musical capabilities. It has so many different sounds and things you can add to make music as a solo artist getting to play each instrument himself. It actually sounds like what it says it will and the other options are amazing. The price seemed high- but after using this steadily for a few months- I can say that it is well worth the price. The feel, the storage capabilities- everything is just perfect.

This is insanely awesome and far more versatile then I had initially expected. This came as an opportunity to review and this device has enough options and fun to keep you busy for hours. That said, out of the box it is somewhat limited as this really does really on an app that is subscription based. It is well loaded with a variety of sound options and songs. This reminds me of the Guitar Hero years and is played very similarly. That said, this is not a guitar and you need to prior musical skill to play it. You will not learn to play a guitar with this, however, you will learn some similar movements and independence of your hands to make sounds on this so there’s that. The sound quality was more impressive than I expected and this can also be easily connected to speakers. I tested this through my PA system and it sounded amazing. Much better than the onboard speakers, but that is to be expected. You can also connect to devices for recording on your PC. This is very cool and it’s fun to play some of the songs. If you have a group of friends that maybe can’t play a guitar, I can see this being very popular and a fun “jam” session. There is some theory you can learn from using this as well. I have my son learning guitar and he says this actually helps him as he can explore sounds he can’t make himself, but also the beats help him learn timings. He also uses this as a 2nd player and a drummer when he is playing his guitar as he runs the drum machine too. There is the gimmick of this, but it really is fun and I do find there is a place for such a device. This brings people together around music and expands thinking about it into actions. This is more than a toy or guitar hero gimmick, I believe there is real value in this and it promotes creativity and musical understanding. There is a very high level of quality in every component. I am thoroughly impressed and very happy with this. It has helped to expand my son’s guitar learning and gives him another tool to creatively explore music. Absolutely amazing and fun and I can’t recommend this enough. It might be bit pricey, but again, this is not a toy but a tool to help creativity and I am happy I did get this. 1000% satisfied and recommended.

I can play the guitar a little bit, I would say I’m a novice. I wanted to give this a try since I could sing songs. It’s very easy to setup. The app on my iPhone is straight forward and taught me how to setup the guitar and even play my first song. It’s very well made, the guitar feels strudy, the clicker feels good to strum, the volume knob is quality like the crown of an apple watch. The foldable format is great for storing away.I was able to play an Ed Sheeran song after a couple days of practice.I think this is great for people who care more about quickly singing/playing a song. It’s more like a toy to be honest. It’s like a more difficult version of guitar hero.I feel like it’s good for teens. I definitely don’t get the enjoyment and satisfaction out of using this as I do with learning a song on a real guitar.
