We have a 6-month-old Golden Retriever mix and let’s face it: Puppies just wanna chew! They can’t help it, and it’s hardwired into their brains; all the chew toys and activities in the world won’t curb their need to “try” any and every item available. Luckily there are plenty of barriers available and we bought three of these for the house and they’ve been perfect. Also: The pricing is absolutely reasonable. For some areas that we go through a lot, we did get more traditional metal gates because they can swing open and closed with less effort.Functionality: These are relatively unobtrusive once installed, allow air to move from room to room, yet to MOST dogs will “seem” like an impenetrable barrier. I say “seem” because a dog that is really determined would in fact probably find a way though (by eventually chewing through it) or leaping over, but that probably applies to almost any barrier. If you have a “jumper” no barrier other than a closed door will work. For everyone else this is great.Anyway, we have a couple of different pet gates throughout the house. Some are traditional metal “swing” gates that are better for frequent opening and closing. But for some areas we wanted the ability to close them off “most of the time” but then at other times just have the barrier “disappear.” These fit that need perfectly.Caveat: DON’T get one of these if you are constantly going in and out of an area/room and want to keep the barrier intact. That’s NOT what these are made for IMO and will likely be a frustrating experience if it’s used that way. Yes, in theory one could keep opening and closing it, but like a pull shade, you’re going to wear the springs down. This is for keeping a door blocked and then having it open for a period of time.INSTALLATION: Extremely easy to install if you can handle hanging a picture or any other simple home maintenance task. They may claim all you need is a screwdriver, but I beg to differ: Get a simple cordless drill or cordless screwdriver to save both time and on frustration. I also have to say that for MOST purposes, the screws included are absolutely overkill. If you are screwing into a wooden door frame, door yourself and the frame a favor and use shorter screws. Otherwise, you’ll end up having to drill pilot holes out first and again, any 1.25″ screw will be more than adequate for the four attachment points. The exception to the above is if you are planning to screw into plaster or drywall, but I’d avoid that if at all possible. The included double-sided tape is handy for setting things in place first and then screwing the pieces down and a thoughtful addition on the manufacturer’s part.

Would have earned 5 stars, but the installation method of using sticky tape to place the brackets into position on the wall did not work for us. The idea is to set the gate into position with the brackets on the gate, the remove the paper from the sticky tape and place against the wall, then lift the gate up and the brackets are supposed to stick to the wall where so you can then mark the screw holes. One of our brackets would NOT slide off of the gate. So, to get around the problem, we placed small screws into the holes of the brackets so that the points of the screws just barely stuck out of the holes. Then by pressing the gate into position, the screws would mark where we had to drill the holes. This works if you have problems with the sticky tape.Once our brackets were in position, the rest of the installation was easy and the gate works great to keep our dog out of the pantry.

Pros:1. Bottom part is fully adjustable so it can fit on all walls and sit right above all baseboard heights. I bought a few gates previous to this that said they were adjustable but the bottom one only could up or down a few inches, so it wouldn’t fit on my horizontal baseboard. This one pro alone makes this four stars.2. Were the gate connects to the hooks you can adjust the bottom height of the connection point. Most other gates you can’t do that. All you have to do is loosen the screw and scoot it up or down for your needs.Cons:1. This is my second baby gate because NiceShine doesn’t sell the previous one I got, but the previous one had a handle that sticks out kind of like the connection points. It was just more convenient.2. The previous one I got also came with a template which was nice because it took a lot of the measuring out of it.ALL IN ALL GREAT GATE HIGHLY RECOMMEND

We bought this gate to keep our two year old from running down the hall and waking up her baby sister. After installing it, we realized she still wanted to get into her room, but thankfully we were able to just install some basic hooks on another corner to allow her to get into her room. This might also be a good alternative for those who said the provided hooks broke. I love that it can work in multiple different ways and that when retracted there’s no threshold, but giving it 4 stars because it is not as easy to open and go through like the walk-through baby gate we have elsewhere. I also can’t speak to the durability yet as we’ve only had it up a day 🙃.

This gate is truly awesome. I use it for my closet entry so my curious puppy won’t get into anything in there. I like that it has the handle to keep the gate centered when removing it. The instructions were easy to follow. Took away one start because the pull back is so strong and fast! But I manage that but holding it tight, and locking the gate before it rolls all the way back. The price was fair and I think better than most gates out there, that just don’t seem to hold out.

Some of my complaints are due to location and use case, I am using it to wall off a litter area from my dogs.Pros- looks nicer than metal gates at this price point. It retracts well, too well, check the cons after. When used locked it’s safe but annoying.Cons- hard to set up, hard instructions seem easy but it is heavy and lining up everything is difficult if doing it by yourself. Do not get this if you have baseboards specially heater baseboards. Works best if you have two completely flat wall areas. The retracting force is insanely strong, don’t know if mine is defective or not but while setting it up I didn’t fully screw the main part in case I needed to move it, so while screwing in the opposite side the side that clips it to the wall the main part snapped off the wall and smacked me with a lot of force. You let go of the hook while it is unlocked it will pull insanely fast and smack against the wall too. Needs to be super secured to the wall and even then I use it locked so it doesn’t retract just in case it pulls itself off the wall again and injures my animals.

Good gate. Does whatever it is supposed to do, and if installed correctly is very secure.2 things: They need different size screws for installation into wood (smaller) Do yourselves a favor and get better screws. The cheap screws they provide will strip out very easily

This works to keep my two big dogs out of my kitchen. It is low profile and not at all unattractive.I am having a bit of a problem getting the lower hook latched and I need to use both hands. I may try changing the angle a bit.For me, this was easier to install than the pressure mounted gates, as I bought one of those and simply could not get the gate to latch. I have blisters from tightening the knobs on that one, which I returned. With this gate, you just need a Phillips screw driver to install. You can’t get it wrong. I will say that I installed it on the inside of a door frame with wood work and switched out the wood screws for shorter ones. No need for the super long screws if you are mounting them into solid wood and not drywall. All in all, I’m happy with this.

We have a rental on the beach and wanted to up up gates on the deck to keep dogs and small children from wondering out on the beach or front of the house. These were very easy to install and came with good instructionsWe got one that was up to 55″ and one up to 118″The attachment hardware and fabric of the gates both seems to be very goodThings to note:1. For us, these are a deterrent only. We didn’t install the hold down clips in the middle, which means a small dog, or child I guess, could squeeze under. We had two dogs with us and it worked great2. With the 118″ gate, if someone or something jumped up on it, it would sag down some in the middle, but the lock option will keep the gate from unrolling more, so the sag is minimal3. Because we are on the beach, we plan to bring the gates in when not in use to avoid the salt water, which destroys about everythingI would definitely recommend

The retractable part is great, the locking mechanism works fine, setup is straightforward. The only thing tricky is hooking the bottom plastic bar. It’s do-able but takes a few tries and my kids have the temptation of to either run into as if crossing a marathon finish line or throw their body into it like a mosh pit. Other than wild children and a tricky latch, it’s functional and looks good. It keeps the dogs and kids separate!

My husband and I didn’t love any of the playpen options we found online–we needed something that would corral our 1-year-old in the designated play area but that was easy to “store” during the week when he was at daycare. We came across this after buying the shorter version for our stairwell and decided to give it a try. We’ve had it up for about two weeks and so far **it’s been a game changer** for us. We’re able to contain our son in his designated play area, so he’s not crawling around our dirty winter floors or getting near the stairwells, but we regain our hallway/living room when he’s at daycare or asleep. Only time will tell if the gate will work once he’s able to walk on his own.I will note, our 16lb mini poodle is able to wiggle her way under the gate if she’s really motivated to greet houseguests, but this may be related to how high we installed it (due to thick trim on the mounting wall).

Love it!Wanted something to help keep our baby in the living room to play sometimes rather than always want to explore, but we have an open floor plan. I hated the idea of the giant metal gates, so this one is PERFECT. We got the second to largest size, and it’s a perfect fit. I know it won’t “contain” her if she actually tries to get out, but it’s great for keeping her in one area. Super easy to install, and great quality.

When it comes to baby things around the house. We prefer whenever possible to keep it as discrete/neutral as possible. These gates are much better than the ones that you cannot retract in my opinion. The install was “easy” however as other reviewers mention there will be quirks based on your setup, needs. Everyone’s space is different.Once I understood how to install them it was as easy as making the pilot holes and then putting in the screws.

I got this for my pups day room for when were out and about, as my girl dane has a thing for shoes, couches, pillows, etc. Perfect fit and flexible but can be solid. Even has a lock setting to prevent it from being so if your pup is a gate pusher. Love it so much since it was hard to find exact measurements for a gate, this one give plenty of space. Then when you put it away it practically disappears and doesn’t take up space. Perfect and has lasted a year so far just fine 😇

We love this baby gate. We switched to this one after our old metal one broke. It was easy to install. It has no problems locking and retracting, and it keeps our toddlers and dog out of the kitchen. Our baby sometimes leans on it and it does not bend or give way.

This gate is so helpful in keeping my little one safe. It was easy to install. I love that it can be out of the way when it needs to be. It does retract back rather quickly.Unfortunately my husband tried to step over it a few nights after we put it up and he fell onto the gate. It broke the metal latches that attach to the floor “suction cups.” Is there any way we could buy replacement parts for the floor pieces?

The gate itself? 5 stars—solid, reliable, and does its job like a bodyguard for babies. The instruction manual? 3 stars—a true literary masterpiece if you enjoy plot twists, missing context, and words that almost make sense. But the hardware? 1 star, and that’s generous. I’ve seen sturdier fasteners in a bag of discount Halloween spider webs. The screws had the structural integrity of a wet spaghetti noodle and looked like they were designed by someone who has never met a wall. If you actually want this gate to function as a gate rather than an expensive tripwire, do yourself a favor and buy your own hardware. See attached photos for the tragic crime scene—if you look closely, you can hear my soul leaving my body.

I purchased this retractable gate for my dog, who is losing her sight and had been falling down the stairs. It was truly a great decision. Since I installed it, I feel much more at ease, knowing she won’t fall. The gate has a practical and functional design, made with high-quality materials that provide great support. It’s easy to use and fits perfectly on my stairs. The retractable system is very convenient, as I can easily store it when it’s not needed. A product that has given me a lot of peace of mind.

This is an incredibly well-designed product. Clearly, a significant amount of thought and consideration was devoted to making a versatile and effective piece of hardware that is easy to install and use.I really appreciated having the double-sided tape on the mounting brackets because it makes sense and I didn’t have to use my level or tape measure. The locking mechanism is equally useful during installation; it quite literally facilitates a one-person installation. The hooks are designed with 4 holes instead of only 2 making them the perfect for the inside or outside of door frames or wherever you’re needing them.

This gate opens easily, can connect to the wall pretty quick. However, it will pull out of the wall if your dog wants to fight it. My dog was able to jump over the gate, so I ended up looking for other alternatives, but for medium/small dogs, or meeker dogs this would have worked well.

I love that it hides behind the wall so it can’t be seen from the door unless it is closed, but once everyone is inside I open it and it is hidden. I preferred this over the ones that attach to the door because I wanted to stop my dogs and cats from escaping to explore when I go in and out of the door. It is latched in two places so it is secure and after using it for a week I got the hang of it and can open and close it one handed…there is a learning curve for that though.

This is the second one of these gates that I’ve purchased. I use them to keep my dogs out of the living room (and off the couches) while we’re out, and the most recent one was bought for the front steps on our porch so the dogs can come out and sit with my on the front porch in the mornings without fear of them running off after a squirrel. They are SUPER easy to install!! I love that the come with sticky pads on the install hardware so you literally just have to line it up where you want, and then screw it in. They are super well built and sturdy once you lock the gate. If you do not lock it, the fabric can be pushed to a point that a child or animal can push underneath, but once it’s locked, that’s no longer an issue. I also love that when it’s not in use, it’s barely noticeable and just rolls into itself. I no longer have to find a place to store a gate, like the old plastic gates I used to have. I definitely recommend these gates. I also love that the come in different colors. The grey matches my home decor perfectly.

Great for RV! Using this in my 2021 T@B 320s camper to keep the dogs in when the door is open and to hopefully keep them from destroying the door screen. Would recommend for furbabies. Easy to unhook and slip off if we need more room to get in and out of the doorway. Seems like a durable material for dog paws.

I love these gates! No hoping over, out of the way when not in use, and strong enough for my kiddo to lean against when she’s trapped on the other side 🙂 works with a banister if you get creative with a 2×4 and some zip ties.

Perfect and looks nice, not cheap. Works great to keep our dog out of rooms we want air flow to.

Luis –
Tim Bass –
Good gate. Does whatever it is supposed to do, and if installed correctly is very secure.2 things: They need different size screws for installation into wood (smaller) Do yourselves a favor and get better screws. The cheap screws they provide will strip out very easily
Rob –

Abigail –
Love it!Wanted something to help keep our baby in the living room to play sometimes rather than always want to explore, but we have an open floor plan. I hated the idea of the giant metal gates, so this one is PERFECT. We got the second to largest size, and it’s a perfect fit. I know it won’t “contain” her if she actually tries to get out, but it’s great for keeping her in one area. Super easy to install, and great quality.
EAK –
It is not advertised as such, but this is not a privacy gate. It is semi-opaque (aka semi-transparent) and can be seen through.
SP –
When it comes to baby things around the house. We prefer whenever possible to keep it as discrete/neutral as possible. These gates are much better than the ones that you cannot retract in my opinion. The install was “easy” however as other reviewers mention there will be quirks based on your setup, needs. Everyone’s space is different.Once I understood how to install them it was as easy as making the pilot holes and then putting in the screws.
Iker Aranaga –
Good lock, not hard to install (took me like 20 min)We’ll build and fit different types of doors
NiceShine Customer –
I got this for my pups day room for when were out and about, as my girl dane has a thing for shoes, couches, pillows, etc. Perfect fit and flexible but can be solid. Even has a lock setting to prevent it from being so if your pup is a gate pusher. Love it so much since it was hard to find exact measurements for a gate, this one give plenty of space. Then when you put it away it practically disappears and doesn’t take up space. Perfect and has lasted a year so far just fine 😇
Sara B. –
Easy to open, and install. Looks soo much better than a baby gate. But my little dog was still able to escape by nosing her way under it (even with it locked).Would definitely work for babies though!

Loving this gate. We have 4 dogs ranging from 8lbs to 80lbs. This works to keep all of them out. My smallest tries her best to go under but she can’t. Easy to use one handed even for a wimp like me. Highly recommend

We love this baby gate. We switched to this one after our old metal one broke. It was easy to install. It has no problems locking and retracting, and it keeps our toddlers and dog out of the kitchen. Our baby sometimes leans on it and it does not bend or give way.
Kevin –
I like that it is out of the way when not needed, this replaced an old swing gate that our rott jumped over and got caught on it and broke the plastic parts.
Siân –
These were easy to put up, sturdy enough to hold up a baby learning to walk and easy to use. I love that when they are not needed they just retract and you aren’t left with a gate in the way anywhere.
NiceShine Customer –
This gate is so helpful in keeping my little one safe. It was easy to install. I love that it can be out of the way when it needs to be. It does retract back rather quickly.Unfortunately my husband tried to step over it a few nights after we put it up and he fell onto the gate. It broke the metal latches that attach to the floor “suction cups.” Is there any way we could buy replacement parts for the floor pieces?
Katrina –

I purchased this gate for my 2nd story deck, to block the access to the stairs.it works great. It’s easy to extend in place, and I like how it retracts too.

Easy install, elegant design, well-built. We’re using it for the top of the stairs to keep our toddler from adventuring the house at night, while she learns her new big-girl routine. Definitely would recommend to other parents doing the same! Love the locking system and how strong the material is.

Skyler Holbrook –
This gate opens easily, can connect to the wall pretty quick. However, it will pull out of the wall if your dog wants to fight it. My dog was able to jump over the gate, so I ended up looking for other alternatives, but for medium/small dogs, or meeker dogs this would have worked well.

Well worth the money. Awesome product.
Greta’s Family –
