I’ve used this twice now, on the green setting. It takes quite a while, but it does the job. I love being able to reduce my food waste to useable potting soil.

Kitchen food waste. I would have liked to keep and use it in my garage, but the instructions did not advise to do that.

I received this for Christmas and have been using it once a week ever since.I have it sitting on my counter and whenever I prep food for meals I just toss the scraps in replace the cover and once its filled to the line I start it.I never have any foul smells coming from it since we eat a plant based diet.Everything breaks down nicely and then is placed in a 5 gallon bucket and used later in seed starting mix or mixed in the soil for our garden beds and planters.Super easy to set up and use!

I love my lomi. My family of 5 ends up with more waste than I would like. We throw everything into our lomi- banana peels, orange peels, fruit and vegetable skins, etc. I live in the woods and traditional compost always brings the bears to my yard and they tear it up and make a big mess. This solves that problem. Every morning, I end up with dirt. I do the quick cycle so it’s not really gardening dirt, so we just dump it outside in the woods. One thing I learned is that if I overfill it or put too many high water volume items in, I get a sticky sludge. I’ve got the hang of it now and it’s great.

I’m not allowed to have a compost in my kitchen due to medical in the family. This has allowed me to compost my scraps and introduce to my gardens eliminating what goes to the green bin that I don’t get to keep. I absolutely love this machine, it makes me aware and reduce my waste knowing what I have to throw in here when bad. Expensive but well worth it in making me happy by increasing my biospheric values

It makes dirt, the container is a bit small. That said, it’s pretty cool. My wife wished it had a clear lid so she could see the dirt being made.

I love this item in the beginning, I thought it was amazing but after several uses it started making a loud noise and so I had to send it back. Maybe if that is worked out a bit I will get another one

I purchased this machine thinking it would be very helpful for quick composting. The only trouble I had was that even on the longer mode, the compost was wet and had to be dried over several days. They indicate that you can use items that I normally don’t compost due to their moisture content , like leftovers from meals. The compost tended to mold while drying which is a huge problem.

Produces fresh, healthy compost almost daily with vegetable & fruit remnants that aren’t fed to our dogs. Makes potted & garden plants happy. Just need to watch one of our Weims who loves the fragrant compost so that he doesn’t dig stuff up or knock over pots!

I find I’m using this more and more. What I’m doing with my scraps might be the difference between my use and that of other users. I don’t put them in the machine right away. I stick them in a plate by my window so that the morning sun will dry the food out before its placed in the lomi. I started doing that after I opened the lid and saw that not everything had turned to dirt. Now it does. If you don’t have the lid completely closed, you might notice a smell when you’re using it. Be sure that the lid is tightly closed on all sides. Not closed on one and lifted ever so slightly on the other side. The other day I was cleaning my lomi, and there’s a part that’s removable (the part that spits out the dirt) that you can take apart and the dishwasher really cleans it up nicely. So I’d taken it part and put the two pieces of that particular part in the dishwasher. Unfortunately, during that cycle, the sealing gasket (which I’d forgotten to remove) came off so when I opened the dishwasher there were three pieces instead of two. I tried unsuccessfully to try getting it back together, and then called amazon to see if I could get a replacement part for that little gasket. Lomi didn’t give them an option to replace that part, so they initiated a return and were going to send me a new one. After we got off the phone, I tried again to replace it and this time it worked! I’ve used it successfully twice since then. I have some gaskets on order now to take care of the issue if it ever arises again. ($5.99 for 6 gasket seals). So I cancelled the return. Thanks NiceShine, you’ve been great thruout. Didn’t want to have to return it!!!Footnote: I initiated another return and thankfully I was able to cancel that one as well. The reason for the initiation? When plugged in, the Lomi wouldn’t start after I pushed the button. The button wouldn’t even turn it on. The customer service never made any suggestions other than to return it. When I started to take it apart to put it in a box, I found that the cord that plugs into the wall, also plugs into the lomi. I’d forgotten about that. It had worked itself out of the lomi when I turned the lomi a little bit. After I plugged it back into the lomi, it worked! Again, saving the hassle of the return. The reason for my posting that bit of information is so that if your lomi doesn’t work, you check both ends of the cord to see they’re both plugged in.

I find this product easy to use. I bought it because I live in an area where composting outdoors is not feasible. This product allows me to compost and produce nutrient rich soil for my gardening. I run it about once or twice per week. There is no odor, which was my initial hesitation when considering purchase. I would buy it again.

To begin with I love the product. It does exactly what it claims to do, it’s easy to use and to keep clean. The reason for the low rating is the complete lack of support with a problem with the purchase of this equipment. When buying you have a choice the unit itself ready to go for $500 or the unit with extra charcoal and pods for $530. Figuring I will eventually need to change the charcoal and the pods help produce a better end product I went for the $530 option. What I got was the $500 option, no extras.Fine, mistakes happen contacted the vendor they suggested I contact NiceShine which I did the person was quite helpful and said the extras were on their way. Waited a week or 10 days, nothing showed up. Again, fine, people make mistakes so I contacted NiceShine (chat) and again nice person, again they said they took care of things and the extras were on their way.Again, nothing. No extras, no email telling me there was any form of a problem. So, I’m left with writing a review. However, knowing NiceShine’s policy of “reviewing” reviews I’m under no delusion this review will ever see the light of day. Yes, it’s only $30 but you’d think a company this big, this dependent upon people trusting them to do the right thing would be a bit more responsive when they claim they’re going to fix a problem.

I didn’t purchase directly from Lomi and paid a bit more here on NiceShine because I didn’t want to be forced into any kind of supplies subscription. The digestive enzyme tablets and the activated charcoal can be bought waaay cheaper pretty much anywhere. No smell so far, runs QUIET. If you make a batch and it comes out too wet on grow setting…just do a quick setting on it and voila! We bought two Lowes buckets to dump our end product in and once those are full we’ll incorporate into the yard. This thing works, it’s super cool and fits on the kitchen counter. I mean we scraped plates, got rid of leftovers in the fridge, daily coffee grounds…just feels great not putting that in the trash can!

Love the concept to try to minimize waste! I really wanted to live this. When in the waste bucket the waste didn’t even smell which is really good! I was very surprised. However, for the price you’re paying i really expected this to be made out of better material. The outer shell is cheap plastic and it just looks sooo cheap. I was shocked. Also, when I made the compost soil it didn’t turn into the soil as advertised. It was very clumpy and smelled weird. I would not put it into my indoor plants soil. It would probably smell up the house. I tried this thing 2 times and followed all directions to the T. But it still didn’t work as I expected. I really wanted it to work and wanted to love but I had to return it.

I rarely write a review, but I’m so pleased with the Lomi I thought I would share my thoughts. I learned about the Lomi from my son. I knew they were very pleased as it reduced their garbage pickup load. I live rurally, and I had a compost pile outside my kitchen. I did not tend to it but only used it as a place to dispose of all the vegetable trimmings, and leftovers. The straw that broke the camel’s back with my out-of-sight-out-of-mind method, is that in the country we always have rodents — now more than ever. So, we decided to face this problem upstream, I think we were feeding the critters. The Lomi is so awesome. Every night I pour my counter compost bucket into the Lomi. In the morning I have “dirt”. Clean. A relief. It’s bigger than expected. Not counter-sized in my eyes. We have it in our laundry room and run it overnight. No problem with the noise of the machine. We’re very happy with it.

I’ve been shopping on NiceShine since 1995 and have purchased thousands of products over that time. I believe this is only the second negative review that I’ve ever submittedAfter careful research, I purchased a Lomi composter on December 12, 2022. The return window closed on January 31, 2023 (50 days later). This composter is a good idea and seems to be sturdily constructed. However, I think the parent company (Pela) put this item on the market before working out all of the kinks. There are a variety of problems with this product, only one of which will I describe here. When we received our Lomi composter, we read the instruction manual carefully and followed all of the included instructions. Initially, the composter worked as advertised, and we were very pleased. However, a few months after we began using our Lomi, we found that composted kitchen waste was baked onto the bottom of the bucket (see attached picture). This happens about once every three or four times we use the composter.Sometimes, this baked-on compost is thick enough that it jams the rotor. More often, the rotor will still turn. Sometimes, I can carefully remove the baked-on compost with a plastic tool (again, see the attached photo). Other times, I have to soak it out (thus, rehydrating what I’ve just paid to dehydrate); the consequent swelling can also jam the rotor. The only other person I know who has a Lomi composter has reported experiencing the same problem.I don’t know what causes this problem. However, I’ve noticed that after the light comes on to indicate that the Lomi is cooling, the light indicating that the Lomi is drying remains on. If the machine is supposed to be cooling but it’s still drying (hence, heating), maybe that could cause this problem. In any case, although I strongly support winter composting and, thus, conserving landfill space, I cannot in good conscience recommend this Lomi composter.

The Lomi has been a great alternative to in home easy composting. The cons are, sometimes it’s hard to open and close top. After a few months of use, my husband and I have noticed it smells like hot garbage sitting until I use the machine. I use run it once a week.

Don’t wait! You can make a positive impact now. Lomi takes all that food waste (and other biodegradable stuff) out of your trash and unable to make METHANE gas adding to our climactic mess! It does exactly what it says and it’s totally worth it. EVs, composting, avoiding plastic as much as we can, it all does add up! Please buy and share and help save your planet and return goodness back TO THE SOIL with the LOMI

I haven’t had my Lomi very long but thus far I am very pleased! Product works as described. I think it is very quiet! Just put my first two loads on my garden outside! Looking forward to seeing how it helps my plants!10-17-24 I need to update this review! My Lomi won’t change the cycles when started so my compost won’t have the good nutrients available! I haven’t even gone through a full pkg of tablets yet. I looked them up online several months back and sent an email and received no response. Their phone number stated they weren’t able to take calls at that moment in time. Now it appears someone else is handling their product and their phone number doesn’t work either. The form they have to fill out doesn’t even have Lomi listed on their dropdown lists! How incredibly disappointing! Guess I’m just stuck with a machine that only partially works.

Stopped working in less than a month, bucket got scratched from veggies and coating is pealing off. Manufacturer said that’s Normal. I was trying to avoid PFAS and PFOA in my food. The lid would often get stuck. But more importantly it’s NOT compost. It’s dehydrated food. Put that in the garden with water and you have juicy food for flies and other creatures. It will take some time to become compost. In midtime it’s taking all nitrogen from the plants in the garden. Worth it ? NoIt gets two stars because the powdery dehydrated food it’s easy to store until you are ready to use it.

After six months of daily use, the unit stopped working. I contacted Lomi and they stated to me that since I purchased it from NiceShine in the United States and use it in Costa Rica it is outside of their warranty conditions. Unfortunately, NiceShine did not offer an extended warranty at the time or I would’ve purchased it but I’m wondering if there’s a reason they didn’t offer it. Anyway, I’m corresponding with the company trying to rectify this issue. If I would’ve known about using it in a different country would not a purchase this unit. It’s cost prohibitive for me to ship it back to the United States and return it to NiceShine and I’m waiting to hear back from the company to see if they will even sell me the circuit boards and fan which I can have install down here. We will see, but I’m not a happy camper.

Okay, she just arrived and upon opening the box my initial reaction was “OMG THIS IS MASSIVE!” Even though I watched videos and read reviews, I never truly grasped how large this gal truly is! My boyfriend and I are Whole Food Plant Based/Frugavores and our initial concern was that this wouldn’t be large enough to handle how much fruit and vegetables we consume on a daily bases. I will aim to write a review again once we have used the machine, but I have a feeling this is going to be amazing! I can’t wait!!

The composter is nice, but noisy (mine registers at 63 DB). Cannot cut up or effectively compost chopped up pieces of artichokes, pistachio shells, or sunflower seed shells. Registration with the company is a nightmare – have tried to register my LOMI Composter SIX (6) times – two of the times LOMI notified me that my registration was successful – but LOMI web site still tells me that I do not have a registration when I try to login. LOMI constantly texts me ads to buy more LOMI products (every few days), which is getting really, really annoying. Too bad my return window for this unit has already closed, as I would have preferred to return this unsupported thing.

My wife is very big on conservation and taking care of the planet. She uses this thing once if not twice a day. We put all our veggie scraps in and then dump the results in the garden or just out in the yard/landscaping. We haven’t replaced the charcoal pellets so the smell has gotten pretty rank – so we usually just run it in the garage. I’ve read that you can get cheaper pellets that are used in fish tanks so we may try that. Either way, if you cook a lot of veggies like we do, this thing is amazing and is keeping tons of organic waste out of our garbage bins and therefore out of the dump. It’s a bit pricey but it makes my wife really happy and therefore me happy – so it’s worth it to me

This product is amazing so far. I am amazed at how in a couple of hours my food waste and paper napkins or towels become dry compost versus the traditional method in which I used to do. Fruit flies, flies and smell are no longer an issue.

We use it several times a week and really found it very helpful to manage our kitchen food waste. But the metal cog that turns the bucket basically fell off – I think that’s what happened – and the food at the bottom got really hot and smelled like it was actually burning, while the stuff at the top just stayed raw and gross. Disappointing!

I read the instructions. I tried two different cycles a couple of times each. I only put vegetable waste with a little fruit it in, no dairy meat beans paper or anything else. I have a Ph.D. and I worked hard to make sure I was using it correctly. Other reviews mention the noise, I didn’t find it off-putting. They mention that getting the lid on is tricky, it is but I managed to get the hang of it. It takes up a lot of space, I put it in the laundry room instead of the kitchen. I am confident I am operating it properly.I’m ashamed I believed the hype, this machine does not come close to living up to it.What it does is remove a lot of water (but not enough, the result is too soggy to store) from the vegetable peels, etc., cuts them up (also not enough, I still ran them through the food processor first after seeing my initial results) and it reduces the volume significantly. The result is warm, wet, stinky, compressed, and unpleasant food waste. It grew mold within 24 hours if I didn’t throw it out right away. It attracted flies both before and after operation. I added some of the “compost” to a potted plant and the plant is now beset by fruit flies. Unfortunately I went on vacation and I passed the return window which in my view should be significantly longer for an expensive product you want people to be completely satisfied with so they don’t write negative reviews. I’m stuck with an machine that I don’t think I’ll use because it seems more sanitary to simply throw out the vegetable waste. The idea is great, the execution is disappointing. Don’t waste your money. I repeat, don’t waste your money.

I have not even set up the Lomi yet and it has already become difficult. The first thing I saw when opening the box as a remember notice to register the Lomi for the warranty. I don’t have a iPhone, only a computer. When I went to the website there is no place to register. You can only do this with a iPhone. I’m 77 years old and barely get by with a computer. So I paid $529.99 for something and can’t even get a one year warranty! Hope the Lomi works better than their web site.

This works exactly as advertised! I got it because no matter how food waste was handled we were getting infested with flies and their, uh, larval forms. I run this a couple of times a week and the resulting product is low volume, dry and has very little odor (and that odor doesn’t smell like garbage or attract bugs). If you put it in your yard you will smell *something* when it rehydrates but it isn’t offensive (I personally wouldn’t use it in indoor houseplants, though, because you can’t mix it in). If you don’t garden you can just dispose of the “dirt” in your yard waste/ green bin. It takes several hours to process a load, so I find it’s best if I run it before turning in at night. There are all sorts of valid ecological reasons to use this, but mostly I never wanted to see another maggot again and so far it is holding up its end of the bargain perfectly.

I used the Lomi since March 2023. In October it quit working. It would no longer compost. I contacted Lomi telling them the bucket and grinder no longer functioned. I sent pictures and they refused to replace the bucket and grinder. However, after going back and forth with Lomi customer support three times, they FINALLY sent me a replacement bucket.

I have to say after making this purchase immediately started having a change of heart after seeing some of the reviews. So many postings of how something so expensive didn’t do the job. That the initial trials were wet, or not sufficiently crushed and I was like ooh ish did I just make a whopping mistake though I wanted an indoor composter. So I knew I was gonna try it the moment it showed up and boy did this puppy deliver. I did a full bucket as it’s Thanksgiving weekend so I had a mix of wet and dry as well as egg shells and shellfish. I barely heard the machine as it ran in the eco default mode and when it was done and I looked, voila I had compost! As that was the reason I got this machine so I’d stop throwing out scraps into the environment, I’m a happy gal. If it breaks down early or stop working before it’s time then you’ll hear my mouth again.

I loved it at first!Smells terrible after using daily for 1 month I have replaced the charcoal several times and added in extra tabs to help promote composting. But the odor from the machine smells toxic and I cannot use it in my house. The return window passed. Also animals ate the compost regardless of what compost cycle I used. It made my dog sick when it got into it as well. Use caution with purchasing this machine.

I love this. As a beginner gardener this is making my life so much easier and reduces sooo much waste that my plants are begging for!Con: the waste can smell. I put broccoli in there and it was starting to mold and when sprinkling on top of plant soil for indoor plants, it def got stinky a couple days later.Pros: The pros def outweigh the cons. It’s quiet and the whole bucket of scraps will turn into a little bit of soil so it’s not at all overwhelming to keep up on. If the bucket is really full and doesn’t quite dry everything out, I just send it through another cycle and it fixes it.Game changer for sure!

I love this thing! I already collected kitchen scraps in a container in the fridge so I didn’t stink up the house throwing them in the trash. Now I have something way better to do with those scraps than just throwing them in the trash! I’ve only run the grow mode which is the longest, but most beneficial for plants (they say). I haven’t seen how long it runs exactly because it always stops in the middle of the night. It is a bit loud (louder than the dishwasher) as it runs through its cycles, but isn’t really that bad. I do not keep the scraps in the machine. I keep them in the fridge and then dump them in when I’m ready to run it. Thus, I haven’t noticed any smell from it. The “dirt” that results has been really dry, but I just sprinkle a little on top of my plants or mix a little into the potting soil when I repot. I haven’t noticed a spurt of growth from the plants, but they haven’t died either. I’ve run it with and without the Lomi pods and honestly I don’t really notice a difference. I just love that you can take smelly scraps that were going to just fill up the landfill and actually put them to good use with very little effort.

We’ve had our Lomi for just over a year. The gear on the shaft of the Lomi broke off, so I reached out to Lomi Support. Here is the sequence of events:January 10th – called. Was on hold for 30 minutes when the recording finally said “we have no agents available call us back later” and hung upJanuary 10th emailedJanuary 11th received a reply asking for informationJanuary 11th sent requested informationJanuary 14th received an answer telling me the warranty had expired, but if I signed up for a subscription for consumables they would cover it.January 17th purchased subscription and advised the person I was emailing with asking for the replacement.January 19th receive an email saying that they would get back to me in 1 – 3 business days, and not to email anymore as it would push my request down the queue.January 20th received the consumable products from the subscription (which I cannot use because of my broken Lomi).January 24th 1-3 business days have passed…called the company and the message is they have no one available to take the call.UpdateJanuary 25th Received an email stating that my warranty was in effect, to go ahead and fill out a warranty request form.January 25th – Replacement product shipped for scheduled delivery on January 29thWe really like the product itself. I would recommend purchasing the extended warranty on Lomi’s website (currently $79.95). If you have a warranty the process is quick and efficient.

I held off on buying this because it seemed expensive, but I finally broke down and got the Lomi and am so glad I did! It makes compost efficiently, and there’s no smell at all. I’ve thrown kitchen scraps like fruit skins, lettuce scraps, egg shells, and some expired (and buggy) pasta, and it reduced it all down to lovely compost in a surprisingly short time. It does have a sound, but it’s not obnoxious or loud. Being able to get these scraps broken down quickly helps keep the kitchen smelling clean, and I’m able to use the compost in my garden immediately. So great!

I only ran about 6 loads and it stopped working. I emailed Lomi. It took several days for them to respond. Finally, they told me what to do which involved taking a cover off and disconnecting a plug. The plug was coated with a silicone-like material, and the wire connectors were corroded. I sent it back to NiceShine. The jury is still out as to if I will order another one.

I was very happy with my Lomi until it broke. Judging from online information and YouTube videos, the fan is the weakness of the product. Removing the fan is tricky because they’ve glued the connection. Given that I was 2 months past the warranty, the only options Lomi gave me were to buy a new one or purchase a $60-every-3-months warranty. I’ve already paid $529 for a product that didn’t last. Why would I do that again?

While the idea of having a fast, efficient composter for food waste is an ideal to strive for, unfortunately this product did not work for me. Having used this in all three modes, at best the machine mushed up the food waste. It was still very much identifiable as such, so much so that it could not be put in the garden bed as it attracted “critters “.The mode that claims to break down “biodegradable “ plastic was run through its cycle twice. The first run through shredded the plastic ( which we had already cut into small pieces and not put much in) and the second run through melted it.Additionally food gets stuck under a metal L shaped blade guard at the bottom of the bucket. Sometimes it becomes so obstructed that the blade cannot turn and that part has to be disassembled from the bucket. This disassembly/assembly process can be quite time consuming. The longest cycle can take many hours. If you’re using a TOU (time of use) plan with your electrical provider there is no way to schedule the process and thus this can get pricey if you’re using it frequently. If you’re not using it frequently you need to throughly clean the bucket and blade between uses which can be quite difficult because of waste getting trapped by the blade guard.

I always felt bad about the amount of food waste that we had. We’ve had it for a week now and have used it three times, reducing about 3 quarts of waste to less than a quart. The waste has almost no odor, and it’s almost completely dry. The noise is very low, but it is constant, so it’s placed in a room that has little use. Rather than sign up for the year’s supplies, I should have just gone on NiceShine to get the accelerator and the activated charcoal. I’d certainly buy it again.

I liked the way the composter worked. However 1 year and 1 month after I bought it, it broke. There is a spot inside the bucket that can become caked with food that you can miss if you aren’t looking for it. Unfortunately, the heat can cook that spot so much that it’s like concrete, and the next time you run the unit, it will break the gear thing that connects the bucket to the base. When I contacted customer service, it turns out that it costs $100 to replace the bucket. I would not complain about that if I had gotten 2 or 3 years of use out of it, or if they would admit that it’s a design flaw and given me a break on the price, but this seems unfair.Do NOT recommend until they either work out that design flaw or improve their customer service.

Once we got to know this product and played with the right settings, it worked well. However, after only 6 weeks, it stopped working. The parent company, Pela, has a customer service email that continues to be a frustrating experience. I purchased the product in 11/23 and I’ve been exchanging emails with them since then. It is now the end of 2/24. It’s obvious I need a new fan but they have not sent it yet. They ask you to try different things to fix it, then they ask for a proof of purchase, then a serial and model number, then a return address, then the serial and model number again….all in separate emails. Still not working…

After 2 weeks of trying to get help from Lomi, more frustrated than ever. Phone is “unfortunately” unavailable, as is chat, though both options still being suggested by Lomi. Email support says you can expect a reply in 5-7 business days, though you are warned not to try to contact them again or your case will be put at the back of the queue. I have had 2 frustratingly non-responsive emails, including to my request to send response to my alternate email. I would never buy from these people again.

I purchased the Lomi in May of 2023, and it was wonderful, until it decided to stop working earlier this month, as the unit would no longer grind the waste.I contacted Lomi customer support as it is within the warranty period, and have been given the run-arround.You can try to call, but you’ll only get a recording that they are unable to take calls, but you can email. So I email, and get an automated response that they are swamped due to the holiday season (in February, mind you), and that they’d reach out in 5-7 days. They finally reply with some questions that I had already answered in the contact form. I answer the questions, and a second rep replied with another question. I answer that question, and a third rep asks for the receipt. Before I can get back to them, they closed the ticket, so my request is sent back to the bottom of the queue. At this point I have no idea if they will honor the warranty.

We are using this almost daily. The first time we filled it we used the Grow setting and it made a big ball of clay-like material. I added some paper and a bit of water, it turned it into a more dirt textured material. We then tried the Eco mode and it makes what looks like shredded brown paper. We have an outside composter and the Eco mode is perfect for that. It breaks everything down so it takes up a lot less space. It’s mixing in with the old compost, which was not the greatest texture, and making beautiful dirt. The Eco mode takes less time, I run it in the morning so it’s empty by the time we make dinner. Two thumbs up from our family!

I was so excited to unpack and use Lomi! My kitchen scraps became wonderful rich dark compost in 16 hours. All was well until a few weeks ago when I had an issue and Lomi stopped mid-cycle. I researched troubleshooting solutions and followed directions to the letter when I tried a different batch of kitchen waste. Same thing happened. The next 2 batches I excruciatingly sorted and loaded to make sure the bucket was just right, started it, then got the blinking red display again early in the cycle. I am disappointed that Lomi isn’t working and would welcome support!

Loving my new Lomi! I was hesitant because I saw some reviews that there was a smell. It’s in my kitchen, so I was concerned. There is absolutely no smell at all! I will say the different setting produce a different end product. The first pic is the fast, eco setting which takes 4-6 hours. The clumps are what I got from the slow setting called “Grow Mode”. I like love that I can take the “dirt” out and sprinkle on my yard. So much better than throwing away all those scraps and coffee grounds! Thank you Lomi!

I am not impressed with how difficult it is to get the right mix of “food waste” to make a proper dirt like compost. I am finding the following issues:1) Customer Service is terrible. Takes 3-5 days to get a “chat” response.2). You can’t just put in your food East, it had to be a specific ratio of wet/dry.3) MOLD! I am having to run a FULL grow cycle 3 times to break down the compost fully. If I only do one there is mold growth with 3 days after I use the compost. Not worth the price unless you are a pro composter and silly understand the ratios. It does not save 80% on good waste like advertised. You can’t even use all your food waste only a small amount and most has to be “dry” waste. If you eat Whole Foods like us, that’s basically nothing…

Thank you Eric!** side note, not sure what happened but when I opened the box one of the tablet bags was open and spilled all over the inside… didn’t think to get a photo… oh well, maybe secure the extras in a little box like the charcoal. 😉

It does NOT make dirt. It makes “pre-compost” that has to be broken down further and has to be mixed in a 1-10 ratio with soil and putting it on the surface will result in a blanket of mold.

My why: I work 60-70 hrs a week, meal prep my weeks, and have very little time to manually compost. But it always felt awful to just throw veggie scraps in the garbage so I started freezing the scraps. Well that became a more a chore because of the space I needed in my freezer .Fast forward: I couldn’t be more happy with this purchase. It is easy to setup and use immediately. So far I’ve produced 10 cups of beautiful compotes soil in less than 24 hrs of using it. My garbage imprint has reduced considerably.I did a lot of homework to search for a kitchen composter that fit my needs- this one checked all the boxes! Yes it is on higher end of price but it is well made, has so many resources online and easy to use.

I really love our Lomi. It does its job as expected, and it doesn’t take up too much space on our countertop. It’s definitely a little pricey BUT no more so than other options that don’t look as pretty lol.My only complaint is the smell. I don’t know why, but I had the expectation that it was low odor, and it definitely stinks up the whole house when it’s running. It’s not even necessarily a bad smell, similar to cooking smells, but it’s not what I expected.

I’m an organic faithful and thought this was going to be another benefit for my potted plants. This expense was a major purchase for me I really did to have the budget for but wanted to do my part for recycling, yet after 16 mos. of use it started to suddenly make a humming noise, getting louder over a few minutes and began to smoke! I pulled the plug and now waiting for it to cool before I can check out the problem. So disappointed and after I recommended this product to several coworkers! Bummed… the end product never resembled “compost”, EVER no matter which setting I used.

I’ve been using my Lomi in the GROW mode. Even in the country we don’t have enough dirt to use for growing. By next year I’ll have enough Lomi to mix with my current purchased soil that everything should be healthier in my raised containers. It also helps that I can freeze scraps, etc to be used when I accumulate enough.

THE LOMI IS SOMETHING I’LL HAVE TO WAIT TO REPURCHASE WHEN WE DON’T HAVE A DOG, BECAUSE OUR DOG IS CREATING A MESS BY EASTING THE COMPOST I’VE ADDED TO POTS AND BEDS… EVEN BURIED INTO THE SOIL SO IT’S NOT ON TOP. ONCE HE EATS IT HE THROWS UP BLACK JUNK WHICH HARDENS ON THE CARPETING AND STAINS IT.

We use this thing all the time! I have hardly any garbage now, and even when I let something go bad in my fridge, it’s great to use the Lomi to make dirt for my garden. I have a larger compost outside, but I love how convenient and fast this machine is. I add great-quality dirt to my yard every few days after filling it up and letting the cycle run for a few hours.

The rotating arm in the bucket broke after about 1 year of use. While searching for a replacement part, I found numerous other users on social media with the same problem. This happened about 1 week after the warranty expired and lomi does not have any replacement buckets. This is now a very expensive and useless chunk of plastic sitting in my kitchen.Lomi support has not responded to any of my emails.

It’s OK. Used it for a few months, end up putting it on a porch bc I don’t want to keep buying activated charcoal required to keep down smells. It does turn the waste into something but I didn’t find that material useful. I’d rather just have it compost in a pile somewhere so I could get some nice dark compost

Absolute garbage. It catastrophically broke after several weeks of regular use. Even before the shaft snapped off it was almost useless. It makes a smelly mushy, pulpy mess that is basically chopped up heated up food. The unit smelled so bad it was hard to run it in a room with anyone in it. Changing the charcoal did nothing. Service sucks as they argue with you about their crap product. Stay away

I purchased a LOMI 18 months ago. It stopped working – the electronic start button no longer works. I contacted Lomi and they offered to replace it if I paid $60 per quarter for a warranty. A $425.00 appliance that works for 18 months – is flawed craftsmanship. My friend’s Lomi also broke down.In addition – there is an article that the compost is dehydrated and tests show it is not compost.Overall – LOMI is an appliance designed to reduce trash and is expensive trash in a mere 18 months!

We purchased this Christmas of 2023 and started using it after the New Year. It worked amazing at first. Yes, it’s a little noisy but we ran it overnight. Worked like a charm…. the compost it made was astonishing. I raved about it to everyone. About 3 months later it just stopped working. My husband tried to troubleshoot it himself but ended up calling Lomi and spending an hour on the phone. Based on their recommendation he was to change out the filter. After that it worked great… for about a month. We went away for 2 wks and upon return it didn’t work again. When you started it, it would run for a few minutes then shut off. We tried changing the filter again but that didn’t fix the problem this time. With 2 busy kids and work I just don’t have time to troubleshoot on the phone again for hours. Sadly it has sat on my counter ever since, taking up space. I should note we followed the directions perfectly. We didn’t overfill it and only put in there what was recommended.

I got one early. My first one the filter warped and melted so they replaced it for free. I have since had to replace the bucket twice for breaking the rotating part and the fan had to be replace and now it’s gone a second time. The company sent things for free when it broke. But admittedly I just got a bit tired of it breaking. When it worked, it worked well. I was able to generate a lot of material. To mix on with my dirt.

This product works as it states it does. I have a spot in the kitchen for my Lomi, where I can toss my scraps in and once it is full I turn it on. Within 5 hours my scraps are turned into mulch ready for the garden. I was surprised at how easy it was and that it really works! YOU can hear it churning away but it is not that intrusive. I am very pleased with this purchase and that my scraps are no longer going into the trash.

The media could not be loaded.

Within two years of purchase with only sporadic use, the Lomi started to make an incredibly loud buzzing noise (video with sound attached). So loud it could only be turned on when we left the house. Company’s response? We can buy a new one, or an extended warranty for “only” $240/year! Not a joke. Obviously the product has some serious design/durability problems and their answer is for the customer to just spend more money.

Worked great for exactly the warranty period and then mysteriously stopped working. Is not quiet so be aware of how long it takes to compost (8+ hours) and how loud it is while it’s composting. When it stopped working the warning was on the cooking light. According to the manual, Something about ventilation but nothing in the Lomi product support site offered HOW to fix the ventilation or fan issue. The manufacturer website also doesn’t offer much aside from submitting a request for help. So… big white appliance that lasts for about one year. (1 year and two weeks). I would not buy it again as a ROI is not sufficient.

Our Lomi stopped working after about 10 months. Lomi stated that it appears that the control panel or an internal connection is bad. They offered a discounted replacement for almost the cost of new. No thanks. Back to composting the old fashioned way. They do not stand behind their products after one year. Expensive experimental way to compost for 10 months. When it was running it was great-no odor and we were please but frustrating to spend so much and have it quit knowing we’ve added to our landfills with another human machine that didn’t last.

This was great for the first year. Then it started not turning off when it was done doing its cycle. That wasn’t the end of the world, we just ran it during the day (smelly sometimes) and be able to unplug right away. Now we are near the two year mark (will be in July 2025) and the bolts in the composter are sheered off and the product is unable to work. I never would have expected it to not even make it to two years. This is very unfortunate and frustrating
