Short version: for the money/weight, I think this is one of JBL’s best products.At 16 lbs and roughly 11x11x12 inches it is still easily portable in one hand without wheels and packs a wallop of high quality sound. I was able to get mine “used” for $200 & got a JBL packaged product that looked & acted brand new. The sound quality is fantastic and adjustable through the JBL Partybox app and 3 levels of bass by simple pushbutton on the unit. The volume will overpower almost any indoor residential space and more than enough for a small outdoor gathering such as a picnic or pool party. The overall volume drops when on battery power alone, but still “cranks it up” unplugged. You can connect more than one input Bluetooth source so friends can take turns as DJ. It has TWS (True Wireless Stereo) Bluetooth connectivity to allow more than one speaker (of the same series) to be connected. Which leads me to my biggest gripe: you CANNOT connect to any other speakers, even JBL other than TWS. JBL cannot seem to make up their mind as shown in my photos of at least THREE different connectivity options. Why is this important? In a larger space you can connect several speakers (such as my Harman-Kardan Studio series) and have the sounds “present” in the background over a larger space at lower volume without overpowering conversations. As a side note, my H-K Studios would connect to my old JBL Charge & Flip…go figure!Comparables: I have not owned any of the other Partybox speakers but after researching several reviews/comparisons it appears to be at least as good as the outgoing larger/heavier 100 and barely under the current 110 model all in a package half the size and much lighter. It’s next competitor in house would be the Boombox 2 (slightly lighter at 13 lbs, fully waterproof at IPX7, less power and more expensive).I have owned/used multiple brands of portable Bluetooth speakers inclidong Jawbone, Sony, Bose, Harman-Kardon and personally feel JBL has the “best bang for the buck” with H-K slightly better in sound quality (owned by the same parent company Harman). Additionally I have owned several iterations of the JBL product line including the Clip, Flip, and Charge series.Pros:-Best bang for the buck. Huge sound in a portable package-6 hrs of battery life-Cutesy light show option-Splashproof design (IPX4)Cons:-Slight drop in sound output on battery only power-Not compatible for connection with additional Bluetooth speakers other than only one more of the same model Partybox-Cutesy light show option-Not waterproof (like many other IPX7 rated JBLs)

I wanted a speaker for family nights, and outside activities that packed more features and more volume than your typical small cylinder you’d see with JBL’s own flip, or the Bose Revolve speakers. At the same time, I was not in the market for some heavy tower beast you typically see with $600+ party speakers.This really met my expectations. Not only was the price (on sale) a good budget pickup, but it’s goldilocks size and performance set it apart. It’s easily luggable, has some water resistance, connects quickly and clearly to my iPhone. The panels on the back allow for different connections, including a Microphone connector, and apparently a connector for USB drives with mp3’s on it. It also has an auxiliary connection if you want to play some lossless HIFI audio from your phone.The audio inside the house easily caps out at 50% before it’s just ridiculously loud. This is both on battery or plugged into power. Depending on your own home, you may not need to even use the bass boost function, as it can become overpowering. When used outside, however, the bass boost is much more useful and helps round out the sound.The sound it produces is pleasant, warm and clear. It’s clearly a sculpted sound to punctuate the lows (bass), but it doesn’t drown out dialogue, vocals, and other instruments. It’s clearly trying to be the life of the party with it’s tuning. I think it does a wonderful job given how small it is for the sound it produces.My 2 year old uses the JBL microphone I bought separately for this speaker and loves to singe along with his favorite songs, as does my 6 year old. The Karaoke feature is basically a must if you have kids. It’s a great way to keep singing a central part of your family’s activities, without buying some throwaway frozen themed karaoke toy that’s hard use and gets forgotten about.Highly recommended for families who want more sound and features than a Flip or Revolve or Soundlink but still want to be able to carry the speaker from place to place without much fuss.

Encore encore this thing is so nice you have to buy it twice… LOL if you can afford it. This thing is amazing JBL has done it yet again. I absolutely love this speaker the sound is crystal clear it’s got amazing Bass and when you play around with the app and mess with the equalizer this thing packs a very very big sound in a small square box. My only complaint is I wish I could buy two of them do you need two of them no you don’t one is more than enough but are you going to want two of them yes you will. I would highly highly recommend this Bluetooth speaker and hopefully someday soon I can add a second one.

This is a great speaker and if you can afford it you should probably get two of them.I wanted a bluetooth speaker that I could take outside to use for BBQs with the kids and neighbors. I didn’t need anything excessively big or loud for that but I still wanted something with decent bass and quality that didn’t sound “small”. I wanted a real speaker and not something you’d clip on your backpack. I did a ton of research and at the perfect moment for me this speaker was announced and I was able to get one locally a month or two later.Initial impression wasn’t awesome but then I listened a bit more and I used the app to make two adjustments. I bumped the bass level on the EQ up by 1 notch and I turned on deep bass mode. I use mine plugged in which does make a difference so if you’re on battery your adjustments or impression may be different. After getting used to the nuances and making these adjustments I started to realize how great this speaker is. It has solid bass and provides a clear, high quality sound without struggling and without any obvious issues. From 20-25ft we set it at 40-50% volume and it’s perfect for my use case. Multiple people have commented how good it sounds.A few months later a family member was planning a large outdoor birthday party and these came on sale at the same time so I ordered a second one from NiceShine so that I could use two of them for stereo mode. Everything that is good about a single speaker is enhanced with a second so the result is awesome. Once again people were asking about the speakers and commenting on how great they sounded and I am very glad that I got the second speaker.The only real drawback is the price especially if you’re getting two of them which I highly recommend. $250 each or $450-500 for a pair makes more sense and is a bit easier to justify for “high quality casual” use like mine. That and “punchy” bass mode is absolute garbage. Just leave it on deep bass and you’ll be fine.

I love this speaker. Sound quality is amazing even at high volume. Easy link to Fire TV, Phone and tablet ( Samsung Galaxy family ) with decent Bluetooth range. I get about 5-6 hours wireless playback on a full charge and notice a slight volume drop going from AC to DC. Ive been running it on AC power 95% of the time and rarely use this as my potable speaker. Hope this helps 8.5/10

I will start by sayin that I was about to buy the Bose s1 pro but some how I encountered a video about this little JBL party box on YouTube . So I decide to give it a chance and I’m not regretting it at all . Before my purchase I went to a misc store to try the nose s1 pro and honestly the bass on that speaker is not even close this JBL . I’m a musician so I know how mids, highs and lows have to sound to give a great quality sound .Long story short this is the best little speaker I never own . 100% recommended

My first encounter with this speaker was at a Big Box store that I shop at weekly and I had the opportunity to Test drive it with my own Cell phone and my types of music. From House music to Jazz to R&B this Speaker never missed a beat. I love the highs as well as the lows. Everything I like about good sound, but I could not get past the sticker price of $299.00. But on a Prime Day at $199.00 is a no Brainer, all week long and twice on Sunday. If I ever see it at this price again I will buy a second one to pair with the first. This speaker is so loud with great quality. I can hear clear across a half acre. The fun colors are customizable and perfect for parties. My adult friend over thanksgiving had the best time playing DJ and incorporating this speaker. The bass is great. The size is fantastic and it is not heavy at all. A True party box. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because I thought it could connect with my JBL charge, but it cannot. It can only connect to other JBL Encores.

Love the bass on this. Best bang for my buck. I never use the light feature, it just feels kinda spastic. I wish the lights were more rythmic (I just put on Alicia Keys “No One”, it has a very strong drum beat and the lights aren’t exactly hitting it). I wish the strobe light at top could just be a strobe and not try to follow the music. BUT – I don’t really care about the lights all that much, the sound is great and would buy again.

More than loud enough for indoor listening, and outdoor. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors to worry about I can’t imagine needing anything bigger volume wise, and the increased portability of the smaller form factor is well worth it for me. Lights are a nice touch but wouldn’t be the deciding factor for me. App works well, customizing your sound profile is super easy, but the bass boost can also be easily adjusted on the speaker itself. Overall very pleased with this speaker.

Having used a 400W sub before and loved how that sounded I was worried if these 100W JBLs would be enough. While the 400W was definitely overkill for any house/basement party, these 100W can definitely fill any room. For it’s size, weight, portability, and phone/bluetooth functionality, this is a no-brainer to have. I also have the JBL GO3, and while those are great in its own right, it doesn’t pack enough punch to power a party. These, however, are great for any party. We used the mics for karaoke, connects seamlessly, and apparently you can add another box as well! Without a wall outlet to plug to, the runtime is pretty quick, though. Like, maybe 3 hours? I wouldn’t rely on it without power. Overall, great!

After purchasing 3 UE Hyperboom’s that all had connectivity issues, (skipping) I bought this Boom Box Essential by JBL and it’s been seamless from the start, clean clear highs and great base. Impressive sound quality for a battery powered speaker… BTW I’d rate it neck and neck with the UE speaker which is more expensive. Plan on using this JBL speaker outside poolside once the weather warms up, but in the meantime jamming away in the house. I like the EQ available using the JBL app and as I said, no blue tooth issues at all. The base boost is great. The app also allows connectivity of multiple speakers at once so I’m toying with the idea of adding another one of these and have a surround sound effect at the pool. Overall this is a great buy at $249. and would certainly recommend it to friends. Delivery was quick and everything showed up in pristine condition.

It’s small but punchy. We take it camping and tailgating for Ohio State Buckeye games. It will definitely get your camping neighbors to call the sound police if you’re not careful. I’m about to order a 2nd one. It connects to your phone flawlessly. If you’re on the fence about purchasing I’d say pull the trigger you will not regret it.

I picked up this unit along with the Philips tax7207 and the Wking x20 to compare for use on bus trips and during fall sports practices. The sound on this one is just top-notch. I would have preferred to get the non-essential version, but NiceShine wasn’t selling it. Still, the sound is so good for the form factor, and the weight was the lightest of the three units I tested. It is going to be perfect for my needs.Everyone has called out the only downside: the battery life. To combat that, however, I picked up an Anker 521 portable power bank. I’ll use it to power this speaker as well as recharge my camera and other electronics I use during away games and practices.I’d highly recommend this unit if you can get it on sale; otherwise, look to the non-essential version for better battery life.

I had the Sony XP500 before this, and although it is a bigger speaker and produced I think 100-150 Watts of punch, this JBL does 100watts and packs a huge punch.The bass is almost similar or as loud as my other previous speaker, but it shakes my houses walls and does get loud. The bass is deep as we all know JBL does a good job. I unfortunately bought it at the non prime day sale at 300. But prime day users, don’t shy away from this on sale.

This small speaker packs a punch. The bass options are nice but they’re not 90’s Corolla back glass near shattering bass levels. The size and weight is nice and the handle makes it super easy to move around. The volume level is my favorite. I’ve tested all genres of music and it all comes through very crisp and clear with no cracking/popping, vibrations, or interference. Sometimes I hook it up to my tv for a movie experience, but it’s great for background noise or a party. Most definitely comparable to Bose and Sonos products.

The portability, versatility, and quality of a speaker in this price range is unmatched. The battery option is handy if you’re not near an outlet and set up is easy. My only wish is that it had a threaded mount point on the bottom for use with a tripod.

This speaker has great sound. The sound is very clear. The base is punchy, even without base boost turned on. I also like how the speaker goes into standby mode when you leave it plugged into a power outlet and you don’t press the power button to turn it off. As soon as sound is detected from your bluetooth input, the speaker turns on and sound comes out instantly. This is great for my theatre setup.

This speaker was louder than I thought it would be. The highs crisp and the lows are hard hitting. If you’re looking for a garage speaker this is the one for you. The only drawback is the battery doesn’t last as long and will be a little lower.

I listen to music everywhere: in the shower, while working, working out, doing yard work, playing sports—you name it.Here’s what I love about this speaker: 1. Portability and Design: It’s about the size of an air fryer and weighs less than 10 pounds, making it super easy to carry with its built-in handle. Perfect for moving it around the house or yard. 2. Bass Quality: I’m incredibly picky about bass—any rattle or lack of fullness drives me nuts. This speaker delivers. The bass is clean, deep, and powerful, especially in smaller rooms like a bedroom or bathroom. You can really feel it. 3. Volume and Clarity: This thing gets loud—loud enough to fill my backyard, and you can still hear it clearly from 150 feet away. The best part? It doesn’t sacrifice bass quality at higher volumes, which is rare in a speaker this size. 4. Simple Controls: Straightforward and easy to use, which is always a plus.Now for the downside: the battery life. This is my biggest complaint. I always use bass boost and play my music pretty loud, so that could be a factor, but I’m only getting about 3-4 hours of playtime—maybe less. For longer outdoor sessions, I’ve resorted to bringing the plug and running it off power. It doesn’t help that plugging it in is a hassle. About two years ago a neighbor was building a disco in his garage. He was looking for lighting and sound recommendations. I’ve been a professional musician since the late seventies, so he asked me. I love JBL products and steered him toward the “Partybox” series. He ended up buying a JBL Partybox Ultimate. It was a big hit in his “disco” and the annual block parties. Since then, several friends and neighbors have bought similar products, none are as well made or perform as well as the JBLs. This Christmas my wife and I wanted to get a partybox for our best friends. They entertain a lot on their back patio around their firepit and use various Bluetooth speakers to provide music. The Partybox Encore seemed like the perfect fit for their needs. Big enough to fill their space and portable enough to be easy to move and store. Have you ever given a gift and it was absolutely perfect? It is a great feeling. They absolutely love it! My wife said, why didn’t you ask for one yourself? 😀 That is a very good question.

I am highly impressed with this radio. Its exceptional volume and multifunctional capabilities make it ideal for any gathering, regardless of the distance from the speaker.
